Greenbrier Acquires Assets of Roller Bearings Industries

Greenbrier owns approximately 9,000 railcars, and performs management services for approximately 138,000 railcars.

(LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.) - Greenbriar logo The Greenbrier Companies (NYSE:GBX) announced today that it has acquired substantially all of the operating assets of Roller Bearing Industries, Inc. ("RBI") from SKF USA Inc.

Greenbrier will immediately assume the operations of the RBI facility in Elizabethtown, Kentucky with a current workforce of about 50 employees.

Protesters in France Douse Olympic Torch in Support of Tibet

The group Reporters Without Borders isn't letting China off the hook for human rights violations.

(PARIS, France) - Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the Eiffel Tower for the passing of the Olympic Torch say the world will be aware of China's military crackdown in Tibet. The protesters were able to put the torch out as it made its way through the French capitol.

The demonstrators say it is ridiculous to allow Beijing to pretend it is a fair and open nation as the Communist driven Asian giant cracks down on peaceful protesters in both Tibet and in the Muslim province of Xinjiang, where residents voiced support of the Dali Lama and Tibet.

Police Pursuit Reaching 100 MPH Ends in Molalla

Additional officers from OSP, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, and Oregon City Police Department assisted in attempts to stop the car as it fled southbound on Highway 213 at speeds reaching over 100 mph.

(MOLALLA, Ore. ) - police chase A Washington County man is in custody today following his attempt to elude city, county and state police officers in an incident that began in Salem and ended in Molalla on Sunday.

At approximately 5:00 PM, Salem Police Department contacted Oregon State Police and informed that they were in pursuit of a stolen grey 1989 Honda Prelude northbound on Interstate 5 in the Salem area. OSP troopers got in position north of Salem and fell in behind the vehicle as it continued northbound at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Iraqi Security Forces Rescue 42 Kidnapped Students

The kidnappers fled the scene, but a spokesman says it defines Iraq's ability to secure the future.

(MOSUL, Iraq) - Iraqi Security Fprces, MND-B Soldiers provide security in Sadr City. The Iraqi Army rescued 42 college students after they were kidnapped by insurgents in southwestern Mosul, April 6th, officials with the U.S. Army said.

The Iraqi Army reportedly detained one suspect, and Iraqi Police are currently searching for additional suspects.

It has been almost twenty six years since anyone saw Kerry Johnson, and missing person advocates are hoping someone in Salem knows something.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Photographs of missing Oregon teen Kerry Johnson Advocates fear the case of a teenage girl who vanished from the Salem area more than twenty five years ago may fall completely into obscurity.

The case of Kerry Lynelle Johnson is especially troubling because the police records on her case are missing. Nobody seems to know exactly what happened.

How Much Housework Does a Husband Create Exactly?

Married women with more than three kids did an average of about 28 hours of housework a week.

(ANN ARBOR, Mich) - housework photo Having a husband creates an extra seven hours a week of housework for women, according to a University of Michigan study of a nationally representative sample of U.S. families.

For men, the picture is very different: A wife saves men from about an hour of housework a week. Overall, the amount of housework done by U.S. women has dropped considerably since 1976, while the amount of housework done by men has increased, according to ISR economist Frank Stafford.

Inmate Disturbance Reported at Ontario, Oregon Prison

The institution is on lock-down status. Visiting is closed for the afternoon.

(ONTARIO, Ore.) - Prison cell An inmate disturbance occurred at the Snake River Correctional Institution (SRCI) on Sunday, April 06, 2008 at approximately 9:40 AM in the Complex 2 Recreation Yard, officials there say. The disturbance involved up to 120 inmates.

Corrections staff reported that they fired a shot from an observation tower which struck an inmate. The inmate has been transported to an area hospital for medical attention.

State to Hold Public Meetings on New Driver License Requirements

DMV will hold seven public hearings cross the state during April.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - oregon driver license Starting July 1, everyone who applies for a new, renewal or replacement Oregon driver license, driver permit or identification card will need to bring documents to prove that they are citizens of the United States or otherwise in the country legally.

The new requirements are a result of Senate Bill 1080, passed by the February legislative session and signed by the governor to tighten issuance requirements for Oregon driver licenses and ID cards.

Willamette University Hosts Urban Earth, Art and Music Festival

Each year Wulapalooza includes a fundraiser for a local charitable foundation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Willamette University event The 10th annual Wulapalooza, Willamette University’s free music, art and Earth festival, will be held Saturday, April 26th on Brown Field.

The festival begins at 11:00 AM with the main music stage opening at 5:00 PM. This year’s featured performers are Mobius Band from New York, and Portland bands The Blow, Blitzen Trapper and Panther.
