Sex Offender Treatment Board Sets Initial Standards for Therapist Certification

Interested parties and the public are allowed opportunity to comment on the proposed rules, including temporary rules, before final adoption.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon Attorney General Hardy Meyers The Oregon Health Licensing Agency, in consultation with the newly established Sex Offender Treatment Board, recently filed temporary operating administrative rules on definitions, fee structure, requirements for application and certification for sex offender therapists.

Those rules, filed on March 14th and effective for 180 days, are subject to public review before permanent rules become effective in September of this year.

Coast Guard Joins Fire Agency in Recovering Burned Vessel

The cause of the vessel fire is unknown at this time.

(COOS BAY, Ore.) - The Coast Guard motor lifeboat Intrepid takes the recreational vessel Sea Weed into side tow after the boat burned in Charleston Harbor, Oregon, on April 3rd, 2008. The U.S. Coast Guard out of Coos Bay, Oregon and the Charleston Fire Department responded to a fire on the recreational vessel Sea Weed near Coos Bay, after receiving a distress call at 6:30 AM.

A spokesman from the Coast Guard says the motor lifeboat Intrepid crew, from Station Coos Bay, contained the vessel fire by spraying it with foam. The Coast Guard says a 47-foot motor lifeboat was also deployed from Station Coos Bay to assist with the situation.

81% of Yamhill County Businesses Pass OLCC Minor Sales Check

The agency views 81% compliance as positive.

(YAMHILL, Ore.) - Liquor store 43 of 53 businesses in Yamhill County passed an Oregon Liquor Control Commission minor sales check on March 21st by refusing to sell alcohol to a minor.

The 81 percent passing rate is above the statewide average of 78 percent. The commission performs the minor sales checks in an effort to reduce drinking by minors, which is a serious problem throughout the state.

Oregon National Guard Deploys to Bangladesh to Support Bilateral Exercise

Guard members will work with military from 12 nations.

(DHAKA, Bangladesh) - Bangladesh map Eight members of the Oregon National Guard are deployed to the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to participate in a three-week long Exercise Shanti Doot, which commenced April 2nd.

The team, comprising both Army and Air National Guard members, will join over 600 international soldiers in an operation designed to enhance regional capacity for peacekeeping operations

Death Toll Unknown After Chinese Police Fire on Tibetan Protesters

Those killed by Chinese paramilitary forces include several women and a young boy.

(KATHMANDU, Tibet) - Chinese paramilitary police Paramilitary police in China’s southwestern Sichuan province fired on a crowd of Tibetan protesters demanding the release of two detained monks, killing and wounding an unknown number of people, Radio Free Asia reports.

At about 8:00 PM last night, paramilitary People’s Armed Police fired on a crowd of several hundred monks from the Tongkor monastery in Kardze and several hundred residents, witnesses told RFA’s Tibetan service.

Catholic Community Services Breaks Ground on New Community Home

The Northeast Salem home will join CCS' first Community Home for Children which opened in Keizer in 1998, as well as two homes in Salem, and one in Woodburn.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Catholic Community Services has broken ground on the Highland neighborhood Community Home for Children Catholic Community Services has broken ground on the Highland neighborhood Community Home for Children, and plans to open the doors to the two-story home in June.

Officials with the Catholic Church say the homes for children provide stable, nurturing neighborhood homes and a family for children in long-term foster care.

Child Abuse Prevention Advocates Honor Thousands of Victims in Salem (VIDEO)

A special event kicks off Child Abuse Prevention Month.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Pinwheels represent the roughly 1,900 children that were victims of abuse They say only a fraction of the children who suffer abuse in this country report those crimes. What we do know is that in 2006 alone, there were over 12,000 child abuse victims in this state, and advocates say it is far too many.

During a special event Thursday in Salem on the steps of the state capitol, voices were heard offering words of support and hope.
