Another Best of Show for Honeywood Winery

Honeywood Winery is located in Salem, the heart of Oregon’s great and fertile Willamette Valley.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Honeywood Winery’s 2006 Pinot Noir wine was awarded Best of Show Pinot Noir during the 2008 Astoria Seafood & Wine Festival. Honeywood also received a Gold Medal for its Oregon Pear Wine.

President and Winemaker Marlene Gallick states "This is our second best of show award for our wine this year and we are very excited. The pear wine is one of our best sellers, we have seen sales climb since 2005 when the pear became Oregon’s state fruit. We like to refer to the pear wine as Oregon in a glass."

Candlelight Vigil Attended by Hundreds in Salem (VIDEO)

Veterans were joined by mothers, fathers, grandmothers and other family members of those serving overseas.

(SALEM, Ore.) - One of many who attended  candlelight vigil Hundreds of thousands of Americans gathered last night to honor and pay respects to all who have fallen during the last five years of fighting in Iraq. In Salem hundreds attended a candlelight vigil on the state capitol steps.

The event was hosted by MoveOn.org and other activist groups. People in attendance burned candles, sang songs and stood together in a show of solidarity.

Diesel Hits Record Highs in Oregon - Nationwide

Salem, Portland, and Medford all hit all time high average diesel prices today.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - New Diesel rules The pain at the pumps continues -- especially for those who fill up with diesel.

The national average for a gallon of diesel went over $4 today to $4.03.

In Oregon, the average statewide price was just barely under the $4 a gallon mark at $3.99, a new record high for the state. However some areas of the state are seeing average Diesel prices over $4 a gallon.

Pharmacology and Therapeutics Part One.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Marijuana/Cannabis at one time was the most prescribed medicine in the United States. It was prescribed for more than one hundred medical conditions. Why it was made illegal is still not understood.

It was resurrected as legal medicine in 1998 in California and has been legalized in eleven other states. About 400,000 patients have permits to grow and use marijuana/cannabis now and the number of permits for use seem to increase at least 10 percent per year.

Vigil at Capitol Tonight Marks Five Years of War in Iraq

As the United States passes the mark of its fifth year of fighting in Iraq, residents will take time to honor those who have fallen.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Scene from the first candle light vigil held on the Oregon capitol`s steps. A Vigil at the Oregon State capitol this evening will recognize and pay tribute the the losses that have taken place in Iraq over the past five years.

The event is sponsored by MoveOn.org and is set to begin at 6:30 PM at the capitol building on Court Street in Salem, Oregon. Organizers hope as many people as possible attend the vigil to pay tribute to those who have died.

McGrew primarily paints his favorite subject- Yosemite, but also captures other spectacular parks such as the Grand Canyon, Redwoods, Grand Teton.

One is James McGrew, an award winning artist and naturalist who devotes his career to sharing nature’s beauty with others. James first visited Yosemite at just four months old, and for as long as he can remember he has explored its natural history and drawn its features and wildlife. He received his first pastels at eight years old, oils at ten.

Delta: Salem Safe From Cutbacks for Now

Delta said Wednesday it raised domestic fares by $10 round-trip to offset the rapidly rising cost of fuel.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - delta jet Delta Airlines said Wednesday that Salem's flights from McNary Field to Salt Lake City are safe from cuts for now.

The announcement comes one day after the Atlanta-based carrier laid out plans to offer severance payouts to more than half its work force and eliminate 5 percent of its domestic flights by August as it deals with soaring fuel prices.

Perhaps if he'd taken the nickname of Skip or Bubba or even Gimpy he would have been accepted as just one of the guys, But no. Mr. Obama stuck with all three of his given names and two of them kinda rhyme with (or are identical to) high profile enemies of the United States. Tough luck that.

Oregon, Washington and Idaho Cleared to Kill Sea Lions

NOAA has authorized the states to remove as many as 85 animals annually, but estimates that only about 30 animals will be removed each year.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - sea lions NOAA’s Fisheries Service is granting authorization requested by Washington, Oregon and Idaho to permanently remove a number of California sea lions that are eating imperiled salmon and steelhead congregating below Bonneville Dam before moving up the Columbia River to spawn.

The action allows these states to target only individual sea lions that continue to eat salmon after deterrence methods have proven unsuccessful.
