Anthrax Threat at Albany Courthouse Turns Out to be Hoax

The courthouse will remain closed for the rest of today and is expected to open for business on time tomorrow morning.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Linn County Courthouse Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports that a reported anthrax threat has proved to be a hoax. The Linn County Courthouse had been closed due to security concerns after envelopes were discovered this morning threatening anthrax contamination.

He says that around 6:17 AM, a custodian opening the courthouse found a note written on an outside entry door and envelopes nearby.

Oregon`s Attorney General Joins in Call for Restored Drug Crime Funding

He may be the President who brought you Homeland Security, but funding for fighting drug problems has shrunk dramatically under the Bush White House.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Evidence from an Oregon drug bust Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers and 55 Attorneys General from other states today issued a letter calling on Congressional leaders to restore funding to the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.

Myers and others say the funding is essential to the operation of state crime and drug enforcement efforts.

Grant Will Assist in Hospital`s Battle Against Infections

The CareOregon grant will allow the hospital to hire a performance-improvement specialist to assist with implementing the necessary changes, as well as fund patient and family education and a public awareness campaign.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Hospital art Salem Hospital has received $90,000 through the CareOregon Care Support and System Innovation (CSSI) Program to support a project aimed at preventing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

This hospital initiative is one of several of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's "5 Million Lives from Harm" national campaign focused on improving patient safety.

Oregon Will Randomly Draw Names From 91,675 Medical Coverage Applicants

Across Oregon, more than 200 outreach sites will be available to help people complete applications.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Aerial view of the Oregon State Capitol by Tim King After five weeks, the Oregon Health Plan reservation list attracted the names of 91,675 uninsured Oregonians by the time it closed Friday at midnight. Final numbers were tallied over the weekend.

The reservation list for the Health Plan's Standard benefit package, which insures a limited number of low-income adults who don't qualify for traditional Medicaid, had been open for people to sign up since January 28th.

Oregon`s Ron Wyden Co-Sponsors `21st Century GI Bill`

Legislation led by Senators Webb, Hagel, Lautenberg and Warner will expand educational opportunities for veterans.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - American soldiers on patrol in Kabul, Afghanistan Arguing that "soldiers who share the same foxhole for the same length of time should get the same benefit," U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) announced his support today for the "Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act" (S.22).

Reintroduced late last week, the legislation commonly referred to as the "21st Century GI Bill" will provide service members who have served since September 11th, 2001 with improved educational benefits similar to those provided to World War II-era veterans.
