Salem Vision 2020 Event Set for March 11th

More than 3,300 surveys returned and hundreds of volunteers already signed up to help make the vision a reality.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Night shot of downtown Salem and the Willamette River Salem, Oregon Mayor Janet Taylor and the Vision 2020 Team are hosting the Salem Vision 2020 Open House on Tuesday, March 11th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Salem Conference Center.

This is the community's opportunity to preview the top 24 priority projects for the City Center. Selected by the community through a public involvement process that included city-wide neighborhood presentations, community meetings, surveys and an open house in December 2007.

Large Ship Loses Power in the Strait of Juan de Fuca

(SEATTLE) - Star Indiana At large vessel lost power at 3:30 AM Thursday Coast Guard officials said. They received notification that the 651-foot bulk carrier Star Indiana suffered a loss of propulsion just north of Neah Bay, Wash., in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Woman Charged in Milwaukie Murder

Milwaukie Police arrest suspect in death of man at local business and identity victim.

(MILWAUKIE, Ore.) - Police say Randy Lee Chipman of Milwaukie was murdered Milwaukie Police investigating a suspicious death today at WW Metal Fab, located at 2200 SE Mailwell, say a 48-year old man was the victim of homicidal violence.

Officer Kevin Krebs says with Milwaukie Police says a suspect was taken into custody without incident after they arrived just before 10:00 AM. 40-year old Sonia Marie Ulness of Gladstone was arrested and charged with 1 count of Murder. She is currently being held without bail at the Clackamas County jail.

Salem Begins Photo Red Light Program

The system that will lead to fines and citations for local drivers is operated by a private company that actually mails you the ticket.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Red light camera The Salem Police Department Photo Red Light program is scheduled to begin operation on February 29th. The first intersection that will begin snapping pictures of passing cars is 25th Street SE and Mission Street SE. Cameras will cover both the westbound and northbound approaches.

This controversial program will allow a privately owned company called Red Flex to participate in the ticket writing process. They are the group who ultimately will send it to the person whose car their camera photographed.

United Nations Charges U.S. Government With Abusing Katrina Survivors

Should it take a world political body to tell Americans to stop being greedy and take care of their own?

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com It is a sad day in America when a world political body has to tell our government to stop screwing its poor people. Experts on housing and minority rights in the United Nations today called on the United States Government to halt the demolition of public housing and protect the human rights of African-Americans affected by Hurricane Katrina, which battered New Orleans in 2005.

In the waning years of the ultra right Bush Administration it is becoming increasingly clear that conservative and business related politics can be the most anti-American ideology on the floor.

Drew Peterson Says He is `Prepared for Anything`

Peterson is the prime suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife who's been missing four months to the day.

(New York) - Drew Peterson In his first interview since a coroner's report ruled his third wife's death a homicide, Drew Peterson denied any involvement in Kathleen Savio's death and said he was "prepared for anything" including an arrest.

"As long as my children are okay, I'm okay," Peterson told Matt Lauer on NBC's Today show. Peterson said he was surprised to hear of the coroner's report that concludes that Savio's death was a homicide.

Amber Alert for Baby Boy and Babysitter in Arizona Canceled

All parties are safe.

(SURPRISE, Az.) - Michael Wolfe The State of Arizona canceled the Amber Alert early this afternoon after the boy and the suspect were found safe in Avondale. No further information is available at this time.

The Surprise Police Department issued the Amber Alert for a missing 20-month old boy and his 15-year old baby sitter. The State of Arizona issued an Amber Alert early Thursday morning after the boy was apparently abducted in Surprise.

Woman Escapes from Attacker in Aloha

It happened at 2:30 AM Sunday morning.

(ALOHA, Ore.) - Sketch of alleged assailant Police say a woman ran into a Plaid Pantry store in Aloha early Sunday morning, and reported that she had been attacked at the bus stop outside. Deputies arrived on scene shortly after the clerk called 911.

The woman said that at about 2:20 AM, a clerk at the Plaid Pantry store located at 20925 SW TV Highway called 911 to report that a woman had been attacked and ran into his store.
