Candlelight Vigils Replace Domestic Partnership Celebration in Portland on January 2nd

Vigils are also replacing community celebrations in Bend, Ashland, Eugene and Corvallis.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Candlelight vigil Oregon Basic Rights will hold a candlelight vigil to mark the day that was supposed to see the implementation of a new law endorsed by Oregon voters that would allow limited privileges to same sex couples.

They say it follows, "the shocking news Friday that a federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order delaying the implementation of Oregon's new Domestic Partnership law."

Redmond Teen Charged in Attempt to Elude Police and Crash

Police say the suspect fled on foot after the crash but was apprehended by officers.

(REDMOND, Ore.) - Photo of Mansfields car windshield after it crashed into the second ditch after elude in Redmond, Oregon 12-29-07 Police say an 18-year old Redmond resident is charged with multiple traffic-related offenses after trying to lose an OSP trooper in the Redmond area. The chase ended when his car drove into an irrigation ditch.

Oregon State Police say it began last night at approximately 8:20 PM when an Oregon State Police Trooper stopped a car for a traffic infraction on Highway 97 near milepost 124.

(PHOTOS) Kuebler Boulevard in Salem Opens After Crash

Police say the crash on Kuebler has been cleared from the roadway.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police say traffic has again reopened after a serious motor vehicle crash on Kuebler Boulevard. Lt. Steve Birr with Salem Police told Salem-News that two vehicles are involved. Four people were transported to Salem Hospital.

"Firefighters had to extricate a man who was trapped in a vehicle for 40 minutes, they received super heavy damage." Birr says the road was closed for hours after the crash that happened shortly before 11:00 AM, between Battle Creek Rd and I-5.

Relief Center Handles Continuing Problems in Columbia County

Weather related problems continue in this Oregon community.

(VERNONIA, Ore.) - Vernonia flood cleanup The town of Vernonia and surrounding communities in Columbia County have been ravaged by recent storm damage and weather conditions are not helping the situation.

Officials reported today that a major slide has occurred on Timber Road, closing it to all traffic in both directions. There has been no reports of any injuries. The slide is located approximately 6 miles from Hwy 47 and Vernonia and about 2 miles from Hwy 26 at Timber Junction.

Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash on Rogue River Highway

The victim called his family from Medford at 5:15 AM December 24th, advising them he was feeling ill and was on his way home. He had not been heard from since.

(ROGUE RIVER, Ore.) - Jeep in fatal crash Oregon, 12-29-07 Police say a Grants Pass-area resident missing since December 24th was found deceased Saturday afternoon at the scene of a fatal traffic crash.

The victim was found by family members near his vehicle that had gone off Rogue River Highway approximately 4 miles south of Rogue River.

Salem Family Displaced by Electrical Fire

Investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature. It stemmed from an electrical failure in the attic.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Photo of house after fire Salem Fire Department crews responded to a second alarm house fire this morning at 10:30 AM. Jeff Mack with Salem Fire says the residence located at 5128 Cecilia St SE belonged to Mr. Troy Willmon and his family.

The Willmon's discovered the fire in their home this morning and called 911, Mack said. They were able to evacuate the residence.

Police Pursuit of Sex Offender Ends in Injury Crash

The alleged driver is a registered sex offender currently on probation for tampering with a witness and eluding a police officer.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Police chase A police pursuit began early this morning at about 4:08 AM, when a Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to stop a black Cadillac on SE McLoughlin Blvd near Gladstone for a traffic infraction.

Detective Jeffrey Green with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, says the vehicle did not yield to the deputy and attempted to eluded the deputies and other units.

Oregon AG Settles Insurance Insurance Bid-Rigging Charges

The scheme was successful because insurers such as Travelers earned preferred status by paying “contingency commissions” to insurance brokers without disclosing those payments to policyholders.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Attorney General Hardy Myers has filed a Stipulated General Judgment in Multnomah County Circuit Court with The Travelers Companies, Inc. (Travelers) of Minnesota resolving charges of bid-rigging in its commercial lines of insurance.

The agreement announced Friday is the third multi-state action for Oregon that involves conduct known as “pay to play,” a scheme devised by insurance broker Marsh & McLennan. Oregon is joined by eight other states, the District of Columbia, and the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation in this settlement.
