Sex Abuse Suspect Arrested for Rape Involving 15-Year Old Girl

Police say the man had sex with a teenage girl from California that he met on the Internet.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Oregon rape suspect: 35-year old Robert Earl Hogan A Hillsboro man has been arrested for third-degree Rape by the Washington County Parole and Probation Department. They say 35-year old Robert Earl Hogan was also taken into custody over a a parole violation detainer.

Michael Rouches with Hillsboro Police, says officers were called to 162 SE Oak Street in Hillsboro last night at approximately 8:00 PM to assist Washington County Parole and Probation officers in checking on Hogan and the possibility of his relationship with a 15-year old female.

FEMA Will Open Disaster Recovery Center in Clatskanie

FEMA Makes Funds Available for a number of repairs and replacements.

(CLATSKANIE, Ore.) - Flood and mudslide scene from Clatskanie in December FEMA will open a Disaster Recovery Center for Oregonians affected by recent floods at the Clatskanie Fire Department. Residents in the Clatskanie, Woodson and Westport areas impacted by December's storms and mudslides may register with FEMA next week.

Car Jacking Reported in Oregon City

The suspect is not a US Citizen and immigration authorities have been contacted regarding his arrest.

(OREGON CITY) - 24-year old Andrey Karachenets Police in Gresham say they are looking for a man they believe is responsible for a car jacking that took place December 30th at 1:30 PM in the parking lot of the Regal movie theater located at 1500 Molalla Avenue, Oregon City.

Det Sgt James Band with Oregon City Police says 24-year old Andrey Karachenets made contact with a woman in her vehicle, contact that led to the woman's car being jacked.

Police in Gresham Investigate Stabbing of 17-Year Old Girl

There are no suspects named at this time but witnesses reported seeing four Hispanic males, approximately 18 to 25 years in age, running from the area.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Stabbing investigation Gresham Police are investigating an assault that sent a local 17-year old girl to the hospital with several stab wounds last night just after 11:00 PM.

Police were dispatched to the Riviera Garden apartments at 900 SE Yamhill, after the residents there found the victim laying in the dirt outside their apartment.

Woman Killed While Walking on Freeway Near Portland

The fatal Vehicle/Pedestrian crash happened on Interstate 84 at the Bridal Veil Interchange.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Fatal crash investigation Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation into a fatal pedestrian involved crash Sunday night that resulted in the death of an unidentified woman.

At approximately 9:30 PM, a 2000 Toyota Echo driven by 22-year old Jessica Michelle Moore of Hood River, was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 28 when it struck a woman walking across the westbound lanes, according to Sergeant Dan Swift with Oregon State Police.

11 Vehicles Smashed on Black Ice on Oregon Highway 34

Drivers are reminded to slow down and use extreme caution in the coming weeks and months as cold weather and ice make roadways hazardous.

(TANGENT, Ore.) - Crash on Oregon Highway 34, 12-30-07 Firefighters and rescue crews in Oregon have been busy throughout the night dealing with crashes from icy road conditions. Linn County and the area around the interstate freeway saw a number of fender benders and more serious crashes.

Dennis Weis with the Tangent Fire Department says his agency which is located in Linn County, responded to five crashes on Highway 34 in a two hour window that were related to the current winter conditions.

Five Injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 26

Highway 26 near Elsie was the scene of another recent serious crash that critically injured a Kansas woman.

(ELSIE, Ore.) - Crash near Elsie, Oregon, 12-30-07 Five people reportedly received non-life threatening injuries Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 26 in Clatsop County.

Oregon State Police Lieutenant Duane Stanton says at approximately 4:49 PM, a Ford Explorer driven by 26-year old Zachary Albrecht of Cannon Beach, was eastbound on Highway 26 near milepost 25 when it crossed the centerline and crashed nearly head-on with a westbound Land Rover driven by 46-year old Jonathan Reiman of Tigard.

Freezing Temperatures Bring Black Ice to Roadways

Some tips on staying alive while driving this winter. Temperatures at midnight Sunday are in the 20's.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Driving in winter Wet roads in the valley are beginning to turn to black ice as temperatures dip below freezing. Police say it is time for drivers to slow down and pay serious attention to potentially hazardous conditions brought about by winter conditions.

"Drivers are warned to use caution," Lt. Steve Birr with Salem Police said. As the name implies, black ice is invisible. In recent days Salem has seen a number of crashes related to ice including one fatality involving a 24-year old Salem woman.

Red Cross Has Busy Day Sunday

One fire displaced a 58-year old physically impaired man.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Fire Fighters from Engine`s 2 and 28 continue to remove smoldering material from an apartment fire in the 8100 block of NE Failing street Sunday Afternoon. Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers in the Portland area had a very busy day, Sunday, when they found themselves responding to two apartment fires back to back.

In both cases, the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter is providing temporary housing at local hotels, meals and other necessities until the fire victims are able to make long term arrangements. Neither fire resulted in any injuries and the cause of both fires remain under investigation by authorities.

School Dress Codes: A Need for Uniformity?

Where do uniforms rate on the list of needs and priority for our schools?

(SALEM, Ore.) - Hitler Youth Neal Feldman recently published an opinion piece A Failing Grade for US Public Education on December 28th 2007 on Salem-News.com in which he lists a number of changes he believes would reverse trends "that have caused the U.S. to lose it place as a world education leader."

I'm sure that many readers share some or all of Neal's ideas or similar notions. Everyone is welcome to their opinion, of course. However, for such suggestions to be taken seriously they must be examined closely.
