Salem Police Officers Honored

One officer rushed a murder suspect by ramming his car, the other prevented a woman from leaping to her death.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Police honored The Salem Police Department has announced that Sergeant James Miller and Sergeant Shawn Adams were recently recognized by the Oregon Peace Officers Association for acts of heroism and bravery in the line of duty.

They were recognized at the Oregon Peace Officers Association annual awards banquet on November 16th in Newport. Sergeant Miller received the Medal of Valor and Sergeant Adams received the Lifesaving Award.

They're asking the candidates to produce scientific evidence of their claims that medical marijuana doesn't work, offering the legal maximum $10,000 campaign contribution to any of the three who can prove that their statements are true.

Smith and Wyden Urge Bush to Provide Immediate Disaster Relief

They're calling on the President and the Department of Homeland Security for assistance.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - President George W. Bush Today, Oregon Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden took to the Senate floor to call for immediate federal assistance in the aftermath of storms and flooding that ravaged Oregon’s north coast earlier this week and left hundreds in shelters, shut down Interstate Five and caused emergency communication line failure.

Smith said, “We must bring all the resources of the federal government to restore hope and vitality. This declaration is critical to the recovery, safety and welfare of thousands of Oregonians.”

FEMA and State Officials Look at Oregon Flood Disaster Areas (VIDEO)

FEMA will decide if the damages are beyond the capabilities and resources of state and local governments.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Flooded farmland in Oregon December 6th 2006 At the request of Governor Ted Kulongoski, federal and state officials are conducting Preliminary Damage Assessments on homes, businesses and public facilities hard hit during this week’s storm and flooding.

According to Oregon Emergency Management (OEM) Director Ken Murphy, PDA teams consisting of representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and OEM will visit and inspect damaged areas, document damages and talk with local officials.

Albany Police on the Lookout for Two Armed Men

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Two suspect sought by Albany, Oregon Police Albany Police are looking for two armed suspects, and they hope somebody in the public can help them locate these two subjects wanted in connection with two separate incidents.

"Both subjects were reported to have been armed during the commission of their crime and should be considered armed at this time," Detective Sergeant Marv Hammersley said.

NASA Postpones Space Shuttle Atlantis Launch; Aims for Friday

(CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.) - Space shuttle Atlantis stands on Launch Pad 39A at NASA`s Kennedy Space Center in Florida NASA has delayed Thursday's planned launch of space shuttle Atlantis on its STS-122 mission to the International Space Station. The next liftoff opportunity is Friday at 4:09 PM EST.

Shuttle program managers decided to postpone Atlantis' launch at 9:56 a.m. because of an issue with a fuel cut-off sensor system inside the external fuel tank. This is one of several systems that protect the shuttle's main engines by triggering their shut down if fuel runs unexpectedly low. During countdown activities Thursday morning, two sensors failed a routine prelaunch check. There are four engine cut-off, or ECO, sensors inside the liquid hydrogen section of the tank, and Launch Commit Criteria require three of the four sensor systems to be functioning properly.

Oregon`s Governor Asks President Bush for Federal Emergency Aid

The Governor has authorized the use of the Department of Corrections mobile kitchen unit to travel to Vernonia to provide citizens and work crews with hot, nourishing meals.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Vernonia Oregon flooding Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has asked President Bush for an expedited federal declaration of emergency.

In a letter sent to the President, the Governor wrote: "I formally request that you declare a major disaster for the State of Oregon as a result of the severe storm and flooding which began on December 1st 2007 and has critically impacted Clatsop, Columbia, Lincoln, Tillamook and Yamhill Counties.

Coast Guard Rescues Hundreds During Northwest Flooding (VIDEO)

The most recent case involved the rescue of a pregnant woman near Pacific City, Wash., by a rescue helicopter crew homeported out of Air Station Port Angeles, Wash.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Coast Guard rescue The Coast Guard, along with state and federal agencies, worked continuously to provide assistance to communities in the Pacific Northwest affected by the recent flooding.

Coast Guard operations began Monday in Tillamook, Ore., Pe Ell, Wash., and Belfair, Wash., where Coast Guard units assisted in the rescue of at least 128 people, five dogs and one cat.
