West Linn Teens Die in Head On Crash With Semi

Victims Identified in Double Fatal Traffic Crash on Highway 97 north of Klamath Falls.
(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) -
Two West Linn-area teenagers died Saturday afternoon when their sport utility vehicle crash head-on with a commercial truck on Highway 97 about fifteen miles north of Klamath Falls.
Oregon State Police Spokesman Greg Hastings says it happened at 4:20 PM. The two occupants of the Toyota 4Runner were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Monmouth Woman`s Body Found on Beach Near Lincoln City

The victim's name and age will be released Sunday.
(GLENEDEN BEACH, Ore.) -
A Monmouth-area woman was found dead Saturday morning by a person walking on the beach of Salishan Spit, south of Lincoln City.
Police say there is no indication of foul play and the investigation will be continued by Oregon State Police with the assistance of the Lincoln County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Oregon Association of Nurseries (and Northwest Treeplanters and Farmworkers United issued a strong response in opposition to Governor Kulongoski's executive order that would dramatically restrict license requirements for the state's agricultural workforce.
"Creating a national, universal identification system through the driver's license program is fundamentally flawed," said John Aguirre, Executive Director of the Oregon Association of Nurseries.

Murder Suicide Reported in Molalla

(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
Just after midnight, members of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office patrol responded to a report of a murder - suicide at an address in Molalla, Oregon.
Detective Jim Strovink with the Clackamas Sheriff says investigators responded to this rural residence located at 30273 South Hwy 213, in Molalla, where they discovered that the male and female married couple who resided at this address were both dead; both victims of an apparent murder - suicide.

No Injuries from Early Morning Tavern Fire in Salem

A janitor spotted smoke early and saved the business from more damage.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
The Big Shots Tavern at 3755 Portland Road NE in Salem was the scene of a commercial fire early Saturday morning. The business's janitor noticed smoke inside business and immediately called 9-1-1.
Firefighters arriving on the scene reported flames coming from the roof of the business. A second alarm was called at 4:18 AM, bringing more fire fighters and apparatus to the scene, according to Salem Fire Department Spokesman Bill Holmstrom.

Two Major Earthquakes Rock Chile Saturday

Chilean and Peruvian media are not reporting any damages or injuries at this time.
(ANTOFAGASTA, Chile) -
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck northern Chile Saturday, the latest in a series of aftershocks to hit the country since a powerful quake on Wednesday.
The USGS says the epicenter was 41 miles north-northwest of Antofagasta, Chile, near the coast and Chile's border with Peru. A 4.6 quake followed at 4:25 PM in the same location.

Elderly Rickreall Man Killed in Friday Morning Crash

Oregon State Police troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
(DALLAS, Ore.) -
An elderly Rickreall-area man died and two other people were injured Friday morning during a two-vehicle crash on Highway 223 at the intersection with Rickreall Road about three miles east of Dallas.
Police say that at approximately 8:00 AM, a 2000 Ford Focus driven by 81-year old Patrick Mason Shellito of Rickreall, was stopped on Rickreall Road at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 223.

Driver Booked for DUII After Smashing Police Car

56-year old Diane Marie Nelson of Veneta was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.
(VENETA, Ore.) -
An Oregon State Police trooper was not injured Thursday night when his patrol car was struck by an intoxicated driver as the trooper arrived upon the scene of a reported crash on Highway 126W about two miles east of Veneta.
At approximately 8:15 PM, OSP Senior Trooper Rick Hamilton was responding to the scene of a reported traffic crash on Highway 126W near Central Road.
