Police Dog Killed in the Line of Duty

Police say the dog was killed while searching for an armed suspect.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Clark County Sheriff`s Office patrol car A report of a possible mental subject in the area of 16415 NE 137th Avenue drew the response of Clark County deputies this afternoon just before 2:00 PM.

According to the caller, a subject by the name of Ronald Chenette was going to be walking down the railroad tracks from 137th Avenue to the Brush Prairie Market on Caples Road. Police say the caller continued to say Ronald was armed with a .357 magnum handgun and had made statement that he wanted to "kill a cop." Before long, a police dog lay dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

Wildfire Evacuees Take Refuge in Red Cross Shelters

ALL individuals who are evacuating or have been evacuated are encouraged to register themselves on the Safe and Well website at www.redcross.org.

(SAN DIEGO) - Fires in Southern California Approximately 3,500 people were registered overnight Monday in Red Cross shelters, with more people outside accessing Red Cross services.

These facilities will remain open as long as there is a need. Residents will be provided a safe place to stay, drinks and meals, and basic health services at these locations. Additional shelters are being opened and operated by municipal and partner organizations.

Oregon Guard on Standby to Assist California Firefighters

They will assist 1,500 California Guard soldiers already deployed.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon Guard aviation crew during a recent training exercise Oregon National Guard aviation personnel are going on stand-by status to aid the 6,000 firefighters battling a Santa Ana wind-driven wildfire that has been burning out of control for three days.

Senate President Peter Courtney says he asked the Governor to make Oregon National Guard resources available to assist emergency management and recovery efforts in Southern California.

Deputies‏ Arrest Man Who Ran From Courtroom

The effort was short lived, police say the man was in custody within ten minutes.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Javier Solas A man who ran from the courtroom in the Washington County Law Enforcement Center was quickly apprehended by deputies who chased him as he ran from the building.

Sgt. Dave Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office says Javier Solas was in court to face several charges resulting from an arrest for DUII.

1,500 California Guardsmen Head for the Fire Zone

They are providing support for crews battling the wildfires.

(SACRAMENTO) - The smoke from the wind driven fires has severely diminished air quality in Southern California where the guard soldiers will aid the firefighting effort More than 1,500 California National Guard men and women as well as various types of equipment continue to provide assistance with the Southern California wildfires.

There are 1,110 Army National Guard soldiers and 400 Air National Guard soldiers, "responded swiftly to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's call with various air and ground assets that are providing security, transportation, and humanitarian support by assisting local authorities," Guard officials say.

Average Gasoline Prices on the Rise

The cost of diesel is soaring too, reasons for the price hikes include unrest in the Middle East

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - German gas station Oregon's gas prices jump from eighth- to fifth-highest in the nation this week, behind Hawaii at $3.189, California at $3.165, Washington at $3.086, and Alaska at $3.056. Idaho's average is $2.901, and Nevada's climbs to $2.984. New Jersey has the least expensive gas in the country at $2.590 per gallon.

The state’s best deal on a gallon of regular was found in Salem where drivers are paying an average of $2.969.

(BEAVERTON, Ore.) - Nike logo (NYSE:NKE) announced Monday that it has reached agreement on an all-cash offer to acquire Umbro plc, a leading United Kingdom-based global football (soccer) brand with more than 70 years of experience in the world's No. 1 sport and the world's biggest football market.

The Board of Directors of Umbro plc, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, has unanimously recommended that shareholders accept the offer of 193.06 pence, which together with the declared dividend values the company at approximately $582 million (285 million pounds sterling), or approximately $4.00 (195 pence) per share.

California Fires Mean Closures and Shelters in San Diego

If police or sheriff's deputies ask you to evacuate, do it without question. If you have been asked to evacuate, try to avoid becoming trapped. If a person does require rescue, it takes the firefighters battling the blaze off the line.

(SAN DIEGO) - California fires are burning totally out of control San Diego emergency officials are asking residents to remain calm and thoughtful as they deal with what is probably the worst series of wildfires to ever sweep over the state.

Emergency officials are urging people to avoid using major highways within the county today. The roadways need to remain clear for evacuations.
