Portland Water Bureau Supplements Bull Run Supply‏ With Groundwater

The Bull Run watershed is Oregon's largest municipal water supply.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Today the Portland Water Bureau is turning on two of six main pumps at the Columbia South Shore Well Field to deliver approximately 36 million gallons of water a day to the City of Portland and some of its wholesale customers.

The bureau will blend this groundwater with the water flowing by gravity from the Bull Run watershed. Groundwater will be approximately 1/3 of the blend. Currently the regional demand for drinking water is averaging 115 to 120 million gallons a day.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Before casting his vote in favor of reauthorizing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Senator Gordon H. Smith (R-OR) asked President Bush from the floor of the U.S. Senate to reconsider his veto threat and sign the measure into law.

SCHIP is a joint federal-state program that provides health care coverage to low-income children. The program is set to expire at the end of September.

WOU Ratifies Collective Bargaining Agreement with Faculty

(MONMOUTH, Ore.) - A new collective bargaining agreement between Western Oregon University and the Western Oregon University Federation of Teachers, Local 2278, was ratified Wednesday by a vote of 78-2.

In his reaction to the conclusion of the sometimes complicated process, WOU President John Minahan praised the hard work of the participants in the negotiation.

Oregon Senator Wants to Ban Internet Tax Forever

Oregon Woman Scammed by Promise of Gold

A woman was tricked into handing over $1,000 in exchange for gold that was never delivered.

(CANBY, Ore.) - A 29-year old Canby woman told police she was scammed out of $1000.00 Monday by two men who approached her in a store. The woman told police she was shopping in the Canby Fred Meyer when she was approached by a man she described as an older Hispanic male.

OSU Conference to Address Childhood Obesity, Latino Health Care

Salem Paint Company Fined by EPA

(SALEM, Ore. ) - For failing to report the release of approximately 725 lbs of xylene (paint thinner) from their Salem, Oregon facility, Ennis Paint, Inc., located at 1675 Commercial St. NE, will pay a $4,257 U.S. Environmental Protection agency fine.

In addition to the penalty, Ennis will also perform a Supplemental Environmental Project which will provide $8,280 to purchase and donate approximately 9,000 reflective road markers to the city of Salem Transportation Department.
