Oregon Senators Set Agenda for 110th Congress

The Senate is likely to act soon on one agenda item, the Mt. Hood wilderness bill.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Oregon Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden have unveiled their sixth joint legislative agenda showing their firm commitment to advancing a bipartisan agenda for Oregon.

The agenda sets out to preserve the county payments safety net, improve access to health insurance, and help build Oregon’s economy.

Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing Begins Monday in Corvallis

The smoke used for testing is not toxic, and will not harm people, pets or food.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Smoke testing of sanitary sewers will begin June 18th in northeast Corvallis, east of Hwy 99W and north of Walnut Blvd.

Residents will be notified at least 24 hours before testing begins in their neighborhood. Work will be conducted between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

The city's flow monitoring program has identified this area as having a significant amount of storm water entering the sewer system during a rain event.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Hallie Ford, a noted Oregon philanthropist, made a gift of $8 million to Oregon State University shortly before she died, generously supporting a cause she advocated for throughout her lifetime — Oregon’s children and their families.

Her final act of philanthropy will build the Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families, a facility on Oregon State University’s campus that will house a group of researchers who take a lifespan and preventive approach to child and family health.

Portland Firefighters Respond to First Wildland Fire of the Summer

The fire started when a gust of wind picked up embers from a campers fire and carried them into the brush.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the first significant Wildland fire of the season on Government Island in the Columbia River.

The first call came in at 5:50 PM and reported a "brush fire 50 feet by 100 feet and starting to catch the trees on fire".

The fire was on the east end of the island, on the south side, about a mile from the Glen Jackson Bridge.

Escaped Oregon State Hospital Patient Captured in Washington

Aaron Smith was admitted to the state psychiatric hospital from Clackamas County in November 2002 following an assault conviction.

(SPOKANE, Wash. ) - A 30-year old Oregon State Hospital forensic patient who left unauthorized during a southeast Portland-area transitional facility visit was arrested without incident Wednesday evening in the Spokane, Washington area after a nearly one week investigation led police to a relative's home where the man was staying.

Aaron Smith, age 30, a forensic patient from Oregon State Hospital's Salem campus, was reported by hospital officials June 7th to law enforcement agencies as being on unauthorized leave after he left the facility where he was attending classes to help transition him into the community.

Tualatin Police Make Quarter Million Dollar Ecstasy Arrest‎

The arrest was the result of an on going six month investigation.

On January 29th of this year, Tualatin Police investigated the report of 2 people attempting to sell "Ecstasy" to employees of Jiggles.
