(SALEM, Ore.) - The trial of former Salem Police officer Sterling Alexander entered its third day today, in the Marion County courtroom of Judge Albin Norblad.

He faces charges in three separate cases; in which two of the alleged victims are described as former acquaintances and one was a co-worker with the city of Salem.

Body Found in Central Oregon Tentatively Identified as McMinnville Man

73-year old Kenneth W. Miller and 69-year old Betty Lou Japel, became the focus of a McMinnville Police Department missing person investigation May 17th after a man, identified as Gregory Allen Cole allegedly shot an Arizona police officer in Quartzite.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Police detectives have tentatively identified remains found in central Oregon as a missing man from the McMinnville area.

The remains were found Wednesday afternoon by a detective with the assistance of National Guard personnel while searching a section of BLM property east of Redmond.

Ruptured Gas Line Halts Salem Traffic on State Street

Salem motorists should avoid State Street until the repairs are completed.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Fire Department says State Street is closed between Hawthorne and Airport Road due to a 4 inch gas line that was cut.

It was not clear exactly how the gas line break happened or whether there were any injuries. Again, motorists should avoid the area as traffic is basically halted because of the gas line incident.

Governor Signs Bottle Bill Expansion and Electronic Recycling Bill into Law

SB 707 expands the bottle bill to include water bottles and HB 2626 creates an electronic recycling program.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Governor Ted Kulongoski on Thursday signed into law Senate Bill 707 and House Bill 2626, expanding Oregon ’s bottle bill to include plastic water bottles and creating a statewide program for recycling used personal computers, televisions, laptops and monitors.

I-5 Northbound in Portland Now Open

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - A semi hauling metal has flipped in the Terwilliger Curves on I-5 northbound, blocking all lanes of traffic.

It is not known when the lanes will be reopened.

Northbound traffic to detour at Highway 217 and I-205.

All lanes have re-opened.

Semi Crash has I-5 Southbound Near Eugene CLOSED

ODOT hopes to be able to open at least one southbound lane by about 7:00 AM this morning.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - A semi roll-over just before 4:00 AM this morning has CLOSED all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 one mile south of the Coburg interchange, near Beltline (milepost 197).

The semi was carrying lumber — two by fours — and the load spilled onto the highway.

A detour has been established at the Coburg interchange (milepost 198), taking traffic to Beltline and then back to I-5.

Police Need Help in Locating Teen Bank Robber

The robber is described as a white male in his late teens around 6’0.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Police are asking for your help in locating a teenage male who robbed a Dallas credit union on Tuesday.

Dallas police responded just after 4:15 PM to the OSU Credit Union on Orchard Drive.

Employees told police the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police Find Missing Kansas Teen`s Body, Suspect Arrested

Police found Smith's body in a wooded area near Grandview, Mo., about 20 miles east of the Target store.

(OVERLAND PARK, KS) - A suspect was arrested Wednesday evening in the slaying of a teenage Kansas girl believed abducted from the parking lot of an Overland Park Target store.

Edwin R. Hall, 26, is expected to be charged this morning with premeditated first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping, Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass said.

Police agencies including the FBI are looking for the suspect or suspects in the tragic kidnapping and murder of 18-year old Kelsey Smith of Overland Park.

(OVERLAND PARK, Kansas) - Investigators on the Kansas/Missouri border discovered a body at approximately 1:30 PM Wednesday, in an area that was part of an intense search for a missing teenager who had been abducted from a Target store Saturday.

Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass shared the bad news with the family this afternoon, "Pending completion of forensics examination, we believe we have found Kelsey Smith."
