Democrats Slug it Out During Second Televised Debate

Polls continue to indicate that a Democrat will probably be elected President in the next election.

(WMUR-TV/New Hampshire) - One thing is certain in the wake of a debate between Democratic Presidential candidates today; President Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy will soon cease to exist if the Republicans lose control of the oval office in 2008.

Eight Democratic Presidential candidates took to the podiums today in an event put together by CNN, WMUR-TV and the New Hampshire Union Leader, to debate a number of topics that may ultimately influence voters on election day.

During the debate the candidates agreed on some things and in some areas they displayed almost bitter opposition.

Space Shuttle Atlantis Given Green Light for Blast Off

Mission STS-117 is the Space Shuttle Program's 21st mission to the International Space Station.

(CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla) - Following the Flight Readiness Review meetings at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, NASA's senior managers have signed the Certification of Flight Readiness confirming that Space Shuttle Atlantis, her flight crew and payloads are fit to fly.

This weekend, Atlantis' main engines, orbital maneuvering system and forward reaction control system will be pressurized for flight.

Orbiter testing and processing is under way, with stowage of flight crew equipment progressing in preparation for a scheduled June 8th launch.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - The Coast Guard will enforce and maintain a controlled access area on the Willamette River while Navy and Coast Guard vessels are tied up at the seawall between the Steel and Morrison Bridges throughout the fleet's visit June 6th-11th.

All boaters, kayakers, personal watercraft operators and canoeists are asked to avoid the security zone altogether.

Teenager Critically Injured After Being Thrown From Open Bed of Pick-Up Near Lyons, Oregon

Police say alcohol is a factor in this single vehicle crash that happened on Highway 226 southwest of Lyons.

(LYONS, Ore.) - An 18-year old male was one of five passengers ejected from the open bed of a pickup during a rollover crash Sunday evening on Highway 226 between Scio and Lyons.

The other four ejected passengers were not injured and the 17-year old driver was arrested on numerous charges including Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.

Oregon State Police Spokesman Greg Hastings says the crash happened at 4:45 PM, when the driver of a Toyota pickup, westbound on Highway 226 with seven people in the cab and bed, lost control and rolled off of the highway.

United Food Group Recalls 75,000 Pounds Of Ground Beef Due To Possible E. coli Contamination

(VERNON, Calif.) - United Food Group LLC in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), is conducting a voluntary recall of 75,000 pounds of ground beef that is believed to be contaminated with the E. coli 0157:H7 bacteria.

The fresh ground beef chubs subject to recall were produced at United Food Group's facility in Vernon on April 20th, and were distributed under the brand names Moran's All Natural, Stater Bros., and Inter-American Products, Inc.

Police Say Road Rage Led to Rollover

Police say a 16-year old boy driving a Ford F-250 actually rammed a motorcycle, and then crashed in a rollover accident that seriously injured his female passenger.

(WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore.) - Washington County Deputies responded to an accident in anunincorporated area Sunday evening after receiving a report of two juveniles involved in a rollover accident.

They say the crash occurred when the juvenile driver fled the scene of a minor traffic accident stemming from a road rage incident. The passenger in the truck, also a juvenile, was transported to Emmanuel Hospital with trauma injuries from the rollover crash.

Patient Taken by Life Flight to OHSU After Diving Accident on the Sandy River

According to witnesses and civilian rescuers, the man dove from about a grassy area about ten feet over the river and when he surfaced appeared to be unconscious.

(SANDY, Ore.) - Police say an adult male patient was transported to OHSU via Life Flight after from injuries that he sustained in a diving accident on the Sandy River.

The area the incident occurred is a popular diving spot across the Sandy River from Dabney State Park. Investigators say there are no indicators that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Rare, Comical Live Fish Washes Up on Seaside, Oregon Beach

The odd but somewhat endearing fish appeared to enjoy the spotlight.

(SEASIDE, Ore.) - Another rare find from the deep has the crew at the Seaside Aquarium buzzing. The fish is cute and bizarre at the same time, and usually lives too deep in the ocean to show up on land.

A group of kids from Oregon City brought in a three-foot-long Spotted Ratfish Saturday, which they had found on the southern cove area of Seaside - still alive. “They brought it up to a lifeguard at one of the stations and asked what to do with it,” said aquarium spokesperson Tiffany Boothe. “They told them to bring it here.”

Bee May be to Blame for Tragic Death in Vancouver, Washington

The driver reported to investigators that a bee flew into the vehicle and while attempting to get the bee out, he veered into the bicycle lane.

(VANCOUVER, Wa.) - Vancouver Police were called to the 200 block of SE 136th Avenue for a vehicle versus bicycle collision Friday evening at 7:30 PM.

As it turns out, the driver of the car and the bicycle rider were both local area high school seniors, as was the 18-year old passenger in the car. The bicyclist later died.
