New Economic Study Examines Effect of Land-Use Laws on Property Values

The study examined the levels and trends of land values in parts of Oregon over the past 40 years.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - A new analysis of land values in Oregon finds no evidence that the state's land-use regulations have caused a generalized reduction in property values.

The study, published this week by Oregon State University economists William Jaeger and Andrew Plantinga, examines the ways in which land-use regulations and Oregon's land-use planning system may affect property values.

Judge Dismisses Charges Against Second Guantanamo Detainee

(NAVAL STATION GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba) - Following suit from events earlier in the day, a military judge tonight dismissed the terrorism charges against Yemeni detainee Salim Ahmed Hamdan.

Navy Capt. Keith J. Allred, the judge in Hamdan's military commission case here, granted a defense motion to dismiss the charges based on a lack of jurisdiction. Allred's ruling follows a decision earlier today by Army Col. Peter Brownback, who dismissed the charges against Canadian Omar Khadr for similar reasons.

Name Released in I-5 Woodburn Interchange Death Investigation

Police say that just before 11:00 PM on June 1st, a transient found Mr. Gerow's body in the bushes east of the southbound exit 271 off ramp.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Oregon State Police detectives have contacted next of kin of an adult male found deceased Friday night on the east side of Interstate 5 in the Woodburn area.

The body of 54-year Bruce Brian Gerow was found by a transient individual in bushes near the southbound off ramp at exit 271. Preliminary investigation still indicates the death may be drug-related.

Celebrity Socialite Paris Hilton Checks into Jail

(LOS ANGELES) - Celebrity socialite Paris Hilton has checked into a Los Angeles Jail to begin serving a 23-day sentence for driving with a suspended licence.

An entry at the Los Angeles County Inmate Information Center said Hilton, 26, had been processed into the jail system on Sunday at 11:38 PM and given a booking number - 9818783.

Hilton was ordered to serve time behind bars after being pulled over in February for driving with a suspended license while on probation for a previous drunk driving violation.

Delta Begins Service to Oregon`s Capitol City this Week

Delta has assigned a CRJ-200 to the Salem-Salt Lake City route which can accommodate up to 50 passengers.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon’s capitol city will once again have daily commercial air service beginning this week.

Salem business and community leaders let out a big cheer of “SLE to SLC” after years of hard work paid-off Feb. 26th, when Atlanta based Delta Airlines announced it would begin serving Salem’s McNary Field with two round-trip non-stop flights a day, 365 days a year to Salt Lake City, the airlines west coast hub, beginning June 7th.

The flights, to be operated by SkyWest Airlines, are scheduled to leave Salem at 6:30 AM arriving Salt Lake City at 9:15 AM and 1:15 PM arriving in Salt Lake City at 4:00 PM.
