Oregon Study Finds That Federal Medicaid Rules Aimed at Illegal Immigrants Harm Vulnerable Citizens

The state study found that nearly two-thirds of those who were denied health services were children.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - New federal rules that require Oregon to verify the identity and citizenship of individuals applying for Medicaid-funded programs have barred over 1,000 Oregonians, mostly children and citizens, from getting health care, a new report by the Department of Human Services finds.

More than 1,000 Oregonians, almost all of whom the State believes to be US citizens, were denied health care services because they were unable to comply with restrictive paperwork requirements created by the federal Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 (DRA).

Representative Continues to Fight for Veterans

All four of these bills are scheduled for public hearings in the House Revenue Committee on Thursday, May 17th. Each was previously approved by the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

Crook County, Oregon Sheriff Clark Indicted by Grand Jury

Oregon's AG says the Crook County Sheriff violated a number of state laws.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Today, the Crook County Grand Jury indicted Crook County Sheriff Rodd Clark for the crimes of Undue Influence, a Class C Felony, and Official Misconduct in the First Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor. Clark will be arraigned in the Crook County Circuit Court on June 6th.

The indictment alleges that Clark committed two crimes at a meeting with employees of the Crook County Sheriff’s office on August 31st, 2005.

Marion County Deputies Seek Wanted Suspect

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Marion County Sheriffs Office is seeking help from the public in locating 26-year old Kit Milo Brittain of Salem.

Randy Corey with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says Brittain is wanted on a probation violation warrant for the charge of Menacing.

"He is being described by his Probation Officer as a danger to the public and mentally unstable."

Salem Woman Causes Minor Accident Driving Wrong Way on I-5

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - A Salem-area woman is being charged in Douglas County following a wrong way driver-involved minor injury crash on Interstate 5 near the Curtain interchange Thursday night.

Investigators are looking into information that this may have been an intentional act to harm herself by driving the wrong way on the freeway.

The woman, who was intoxicated and received minor injuries, was cited to appear on multiple charges at a Eugene-area hospital.

Senate Passes Bill to Protect Homebuyers

Home Loan Fairness Act will target predatory lending practices, head off mortgage crisis.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Oregon Senate today passed Senate Bill 965, legislation that sets new standards for lenders who make nontraditional home loans. Known as the Home Loan Fairness Act, the bill comes in response to the recent crisis in the subprime lending market that has led to record foreclosures across the country.

Senate Bill 965 will protect consumers and put Oregon in a unique position to prevent a foreclosure crisis.

Top General Calls For Troops To Improve Their Treatment of Iraqi People

A survey found that only 47 percent of soldiers and 38 percent of Marines agreed that noncombatants should be treated with dignity and respect.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander of Multinational Force Iraq, is urging troops in his command to take the "moral high ground" when dealing with insurgents and the Iraqi people.

In response to the results of the latest mental health survey of troops in Iraq, Petraeus sent a letter to the troops yesterday, stressing that the key to securing Iraq is building trust by adhering to values and ethical standards.

Armed and Dangerous Fugitive Sought by Oregon State Police in Chemult

Police believe the man is located somewhere in the Highway 97 and Interstate 5 corridors.

(CHEMULT, Ore.) - An armed and dangerous wanted fugitive is still on the loose as of Friday morning after he and a passenger ran from an Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic-related stop Thursday evening in Chemult in northern Klamath County.

After both men ran from their vehicle OSP troopers, with the assistance of a Klamath Falls Police Department (KFPD) dog, discovered approximately 93 pounds of marijuana in the trunk. The passenger was captured Thursday night west of Chemult and the wanted driver has not been found.

Police Find Man With Gun at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon

Police have located a man reported to have weapons on the Linn-Benton County College campus. The campus is closed for the remainder of the day.

(ALBANY) - The Linn-Benton Community College went into lockdown at about 9:00 AM, after a report of a man on campus who was suspected of concealing weapons under a tan trenchcoat.

The man had a weapon and a concealed weapons permit, according to Albany police.
