Health Advisory Issued for Water Contact at Nye Beach in Lincoln County (English/Spanish)

Although state officials discourage water contact, they continue to encourage other recreational activities on these beaches because they pose no health risk even during an advisory.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - A public health advisory was issued Thursday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Nye Beach in Lincoln County.

Water samples indicate higher-than-normal levels of fecal bacteria, which can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses.

Letter Carriers to Help Stamp Out Hunger Saturday

Last year’s the food drive generated more than 80,000 pounds of food throughout Marion and Polk counties.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Letter carriers in Salem will join letter carriers across America to do much more than deliver mail when they walk and drive along their postal routes on Saturday.

They will also collect donations of nonperishable food from their postal customers to Stamp Out Hunger during the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive—the largest one-day food drive for Marion-Polk Food Share.

Most needed foods include canned tuna, peanut butter, soups, chili, Macaroni & Cheese, canned fruits, canned vegetables, cereal and pasta.

Early Morning Fire in Beaverton Displaces Seven

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

(BEAVERTON) - Just after midnight this morning, Tualatin Valley firefighters responded to a report from a panicked caller stating that there was a fire at 6355 SW Lombard Avenue in Beaverton.

Within five minutes firefighters arrived to find black smoke showing from the two-story home, which is surrounded by a large apartment complex.

Fortunately all seven tenants who rent the home had safely evacuated.

Caution Seeded in Sprucing up Historic Cemetery Markers

(SALEM, Ore.) - Cleaning a cemetery monument for Memorial Day? The Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries is offering some tips on how to do more good than harm.

Seeing monuments covered in vines and moss or caked on dirt prompt people to venture out before Memorial Day to spiffy up grave markers with the best intentions, said Kuri Gill, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's (OPRD) historic cemeteries program coordinator. "The way they complete their cleaning, though, can diminish their efforts," she added.

Oregon Police Trooper Seizes Approximately 171 Pounds of Marijuana

Oregon State Police Drug Enforcement Section detectives estimate the value of the seized marijuana at $400,000 - $500,000.

(PENDLETON, Ore.) - An Oregon State Police, with the assistance of his drug detection dog, seized approximately 171 pounds of marijuana Tuesday afternoon during a traffic stop on Interstate 84 in the Pendleton-area.

During the contact, the trooper's drug detection dog alerted on the car and a subsequent search led to the discovery of approximately 171 pounds of marijuana in the trunk.

Canby Police Arrest Suspect in Assault, Strangulation and Kidnapping Charges

The victim told police that Moore head butted her nose, breaking it, and continued to hit her so hard on the ear that it ruptured her eardrum.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Canby Police arrested 40-year old Kenneth Gene Moore of Canby today, for Assault III, Strangulation, and Kidnapping II after an incident involving his estranged girlfriend.
