Tropical Storm Andrea Churns off East Coast

Andrea is expected to produce total rainfall amounts of less than a half an inch in most coastal areas.

(ATLANTA) - A tropical storm watch remains in effect along the southeast coast of the United States from Altamaha Sound, Georgia southward to Flagler Beach, Florida.

A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within the next 36 hours.

At 5:00 PM EDT, the center of subtropical storm Andrea was located about 105 miles southwest of Savannah, Georgia.

Southern California Fires Threaten Homes and LA Zoo

The blaze also saw animals at the nearby Los Angeles Zoo being moved indoors to protect them from the heat and smoke.

Oregon State Students Vote for Green Energy Fee

OSU will have a new $50 million co-generation facility on campus beginning in 2008.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State University students have overwhelmingly voted to assess themselves a fee of up to $8.50 per student each term to pay for “green” energy for the OSU campus.

The proposal passed by a margin of 70.6 percent (yes votes) to 29.4 percent (no), making Oregon State one of the few colleges and universities nationally to pass such a measure.

If the maximum fee is assessed, 100 percent of OSU’s electrical consumption can be offset, according to Brandon Trelstad, the university’s campus sustainability coordinator.

Senate Passes Extension for Processing Measure 37 Claims

Legislation will provide more time for counties to process thousands of claims, ensure protection of land and taxpayer dollars.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Oregon Senate today passed House Bill 3546, an extension of the timeline for counties and the state to process claims under Ballot Measure 37. The extension will give public entities an additional 360 days to process claims, many of which were filed within the last five weeks of the filing deadline.

(SALEM, Ore.) - This morning, in a public ceremony attended by well over 100 citizens and legislators, Governor Ted Kulongoski signed two bills into law ensuring that all Oregon families are treated with basic fairness and that all Oregonians can live and work free from the sting of discrimination, regardless of sexual orientation or gender.

House Bill 2007, the Oregon Family Fairness Act, creates legal recognition for same-sex couples and their families through Domestic Partnerships.

Missing English Cyclist Found Safe in California

The Englishman is said to be in good condition.

(EUREKA, Calif. ) - Oregon State Police have been contacted by the wife of missing English cyclist 49-year-old Clive Leslie Ruddle, that he has arrived in Eureka, California and is OK.

Investigators learned he was in the southern Oregon coast as late as Friday, May 4th.

Information indicates Ruddle stayed at Sunset Bay State Park south of Coos Bay on May 2nd and 3rd. He reportedly left the morning of May 4th.

Three Earthquakes Shake off Northern California Coast

No Tsunami Warning was issued for the West Coast.

(PETROLIA, Calif. ) - Three strong earthquakes shook off the Northern California coast this morning.

The first, a magnitude 5.2, occurred at 12:50 AM, and had a depth of 5.6 miles.

The second, a 4.5 magnitude occurred at 1:07 AM, and had a depth of 6.4 miles. The latest, a magnitude 2.7 occurred at 1:18 AM, and had a depth of 3.2 miles.

Newport Registers Title of “Dungeness Crab Capitol of the World”

The real ammo behind the phrase is the enormous yields of commercial crabs the port in Yaquina Bay brings in each year.
