Portland Firefighters Battle 3-Alarm Apartment Fire; Two Dumpster Fires

Combined, over 120 firefighters responded to the fires.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - fire investigation logo Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the Regency Park North apartments located at 5026 NE 31st Ave on a report of dumpster/recycle container fire at 12:45 AM.

While responding to this fire, another caller reported the fire had extended to the apartment building.

At 12:47 AM a 1st alarm assignment was dispatched. E14 arrived at 12:49 AM with fire on the exterior of the 2 story apartment building and extending into the attic area.

California Man who Escaped from OSP Trooper Could be Headed to Salem

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5'9", 145 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

(ASHLAND, Ore. ) - cruz osp photo A 20-year old California man who ran on foot from an Oregon State Police trooper during a Friday morning traffic stop on Interstate 5 about three miles south of Ashland is now wanted on felony Marijuana-related charges.

OSP has not located the suspect who is believed to have been headed to the Salem area, and is asking for the public's help with information to locate him.

On April 13th, at approximately 7:00 AM an OSP trooper stopped a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Oregon license plates northbound Interstate 5 near milepost 10.

Rutgers Women`s Basketball Team Accepts Don Imus Apology

CBS and MSNBC fired the radio shock jock this week after he called the women basketball team from Rutgers "nappy headed hos."

(NEW YORK) - don and Deirdre imus The coach and players of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team said Friday that they have accepted the apology delivered by radio personality Don Imus at the New Jersey governor’s mansion on Thursday night.

C. Vivian Stringer : “We, the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights basketball team, accept Mr. Imus’ apology, and we are now in the process of forgiving. We still find his statements unacceptable, and this experience is one that we will never forget.

Imus’s wife, Deirdre, broadcasting this morning in his former time slot on WFAN during it’s annual Radiothon charity drive, described the basketball team as “unbelievably courageous and beautiful women.”

PFC Brett Andre Walton Latest Oregon Iraqi Freedom Casualty

PFC Brett Walton was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division out of Ft. Carson, Colorado. He was recently promoted to Private First Class.

(SALEM) - Brett Walton A 37-year old soldier killed in Iraq this week is a Portland native, father and husband. Private First Class Brett Walton died April 9th at approximately 6:00 PM while conducting combat operations in Baghdad, Iraq.

PFC Walton's HUMMWV or "Humvee" was struck by and improvised explosive device. Brett Walton was the driver of the vehicle and was killed by the explosion.

Two Hurt During Fire at Keizer Construction Site

The explosion happened at a construction site at the location of the new Keizer Station shopping center near the intersection of Chemawa Rd. NE and the I-5 freeway.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Flames consume a 500k construction tiller An explosion at a construction site in Keizer led to injuries and the total loss of construction equipment valued at half a million dollars.

Flames were reported to be leaping 20 feet into the air, according to Keizer Fire Spokesman Jim Trett.

"Fire crews found one construction worker on the ground a short distance away from the piece of equipment. They also determined that a 6 inch gas line had in fact been punctured and called NW Natural to respond to cut off the gas supply to the site."

Network follows MSNBC in their dismissal of the radio shock jock who called collegiate Athletes from Rutgers "nappy headed hos."

(SALEM) - Don Imus The CBS network has fired radio host Don Imus for racist remarks he made about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.

CBS follows MSNBC in their decision to distance themselves from the shock jock after he called the basketball team a group of "nappy-headed hos" last week.

The AP reports that CBS was under growing pressure to give Imus the boot.

71-Year Old Stayton, Oregon Man Dies After Being Hit by Log Truck

Investigators believe that Mr. Christensen could not hear the backing truck because of the engine noise of a nearby piece of logging equipment.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - death investigation A lifetime logging employee who spent over fifty years with the same company in Stayton died this morning when he was struck by a log truck that was backing up.

Investigators believe the man, 71-year old Vernon Christensen, was killed accidentally by a fellow employee.
