Disabled Woman Pulled From House Fire

A pet dog and two cats survived, but a third cat perished in the fire.

(SALEM) - Salem Fire Department crews was dispatched to a report of a house fire located at 182 Idell Ct. SE Thursday at 10:48 AM.

Captain Dave Cruthers reported that as the Engine arrived, firefighters could see a woman on the floor inside the front door. He says they immediately went into a rescue mode.

A second alarm was called to the single-family residence at 10:51 AM sending additional resources. The woman was transported to Salem Hospital for observation.

Oregon State Fairgrounds Hosting BLM Wild Horse Adoptions This Weekend

There will be two wild horse demonstrations on Saturday.

(SALEM) - Nearly 40 wild horses will be offered for adoption this weekend in Salem, giving anyone interested the opportunity to get out and see wild horses up close, learn about their history and U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s Adopt-a-Horse Program, and maybe even bring one home.

Animal viewing and adopter registration runs from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, at the Oregon State Fair and Expo Center, 2330 17th Street Northeast.

Rollover Crash in Salem Sheers Power Pole

Holmstrom says that fortunately, PGE had a full crew already on their way to address another power problem and quickly diverted to the accident scene.

(SALEM) - Salem Fire Department responded to a one car rollover at Portland Road and Wayside Terrace Thursday morning just after 2:30 AM. Fire Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says crews found a sheered off power pole.

"Upon Engine 3's arrival they discovered a low hanging wire crossing Portland Road as well as a blue caravan-type vehicle on its side, over a small embankment and in contact with an electrical power pole."

Holocaust Survivor Visits Willamette University

Kryszek’s story echoes the story of Anne Frank — same age, same country, same trauma — but Kryszek survived to personally tell her story.

(SALEM) - Holocaust survivor Rachella “Chella” Kryszek will recount her life story in a free event Tuesday, April 17th, at 7:00 PM in the Montag Den at Willamette University.

Kryszek was born in The Hague, Holland in 1928. In 1940 the Nazis invaded Holland, and soon after the invasion, Kryszek and her family went into hiding. At the age of 15, the Gestapo captured Kryszek and her family. For one and a half years, she and her sister endured seven different concentration camps, including Auschwitz.
