Oregon Father who Used Stun-Gun on Infant Son has Case Held-Over Till Next Month

The child remains in the protective custody of DHS

(ALBANY, Ore.) - The Oregon father who shocked the nation after he allegedly used a 100,00 volt stun-gun device on his 18-month-old son multiple times had his case held over on Monday.

23-year-old Rian James Whittman is due back in a Linn County Courtroom April 23rd.

Whittman is charged with two counts each of first-and second-degree assault, all of which are Measure 11 crimes. His wife was cleared by investigators last month of any criminal wrongdoing.

Wyden-Reid-Baucus-Bingaman Amendment Includes Nearly $5 Billion for Rural Schools and Communities Nationwide

(Washington, D.C.) - Struggling rural schools and communities were thrown a lifeline today by a bipartisan coalition of U.S. Senators, when they offered a multi-year proposal to restore funding for the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act, commonly known as the county payments law.

The Senators’ proposal would immediately resolve the budget crisis confronting rural communities by fully funding the county payments program for 2007.

This five-year plan will provide counties with a predictable stream of funding which will gradually ramp down by ten percent per year through 2011.

Unknown Substance Found at Kettle Foods

A white powder substance was discovered Monday in an envelope at the state office of Veteran's Affairs.

(SALEM) - Salem Fire Department crews responded to a call for an unknown substance at 3126 Kettle Ct. SE at 11:02 AM on Tuesday..

Chris Riffle with Salem Fire says the first arriving firefighters reported that a small quantity of a gray powder was found by an employee working at Kettle Foods.

None of the 75 employees working at the time were evacuated from the building or reported feeling sick from the unknown substance.
