Wheatland Ferry Closes Tuesday

It is anticipated that this process will take several additional days depending upon weather conditions.

(WHEATLAND, Ore.) - The Wheatland Ferry will be closing Tuesday March, 13th as the river level is expected to be well above the Ferry's maximum operating level of 15.8 feet by Tuesday morning.

Operators say the ferry should be operational through all of the scheduled hours on Monday the 12th based upon the current NOAA Northwest River Forecast Center projection.

The Ferry will be closed beginning Tuesday morning March 13th. Projections are for the river to be above the operational range through March 13th.

Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury will Present Inconvenient Truth at Portland Community College

Oregon's Secretary of State has recently completed a rigorous training program led by the former Vice President to spread the message about the threat of, and solutions to, global warming.

(PORTLAND) - Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury will appear at Portland Community College to give the Oregon perspective to Al Gore's Academy Award-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

Bradbury will present at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 5th in the Performing Arts Center at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. His presentation will include a slide show and a question-and-answer session with the audience. This
event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is free after 6:30 PM.

FOX-12 Oregon Airs Second Half Hour Special Sunday on Tim King`s Work in Afghanistan

This week's program airs Sunday at 6:00 PM.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - A second half-hour program will air on Oregon's KPTV FOX-12 this weekend featuring the work of Salem-News.com's Tim King in Afghanistan. Tim spent just under two months during the winter of 2006/07 embedded with the Oregon National Guard's 41st Combat Brigade Team.

The first of the two half-hour shows aired Saturday, February 24th at 10:30 PM on FOX-12 following the news.

Oregon Man Arrested For Fatal Crash off 126W

The OSP trooper came upon the Toyota after it crashed head-on with a rock wall.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - 30-year old Jeremiah Nathan Wertz was arrested Thursday by Oregon State Police on multiple charges related to a February 4th fatal traffic crash off Highway 126W on Richardson Road.

Keizer Police, Fire Hosting Free Child Car Seat Clinic

In 2002, more than 400 U.S. children between the ages of 4 and 8 were killed in car crashes.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - The Keizer Police Department, in partnership with the Keizer Fire District, will be hosting a free child safety seat clinic on Saturday, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

Safety seat clinics are designed to educate parents on the proper installation of safety seats and the children therein.

Specially trained safety seat technicians will be on hand to inspect and install safety seats and will have recall information available.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The holidays may be over but a group of volunteers in Salem is making sure that the gifts keep on coming to our military service men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq.

They gather monthly in the capitol city to take part in a project called Love Boxes.

For the price of the postage, they fill and mail all kinds of items to soldiers that are easy to buy in the states, but very hard to find in a war zone.

Oregon Lawmaker Backing Obama`s Fuel Economy Reform Act

If approved, the bill would be the first change in fuel economy standards in 20 years.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) is supporting legislation that will help Oregonians drive farther on a gallon of gas.

The Fuel Economy Reform Act of 2007 introduced by U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), would reduce America’s gasoline consumption by more than half a trillion gallons by 2028 and greatly decrease our dependence on foreign oil.

This would be the first change in fuel economy standards in 20 years.

“Consumers are demanding fuel efficient vehicles and I believe American ingenuity is up to the task,” Smith said.

Gladstone Police say Jessie Carlow McKee arrived at 1400 Cornell as Police were rapping up their search warrant. He was driving up to the house when he suddenly reaized that police officers coming out. He tried to leave but was stopped by police.

The bill is a part of the Senate Democratic Agenda and is a major step in the effort to create more accountability in education funding.

Scam Targets Oregon Veterans in Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities

There have been some near misses, but so far there have been no reports of anyone falling victim to the scam in Oregon.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - The U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs Regional Office in Portland, the Benton County Board of Commissioners and the Benton County Veterans Service Office urge veterans, their spouses, or their families to beware of unauthorized franchises or individuals offering representation for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The current scam targeting Veterans’ is being run by Veterans Salute based in Florida. The company has been contacting nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult day-cares looking for veterans who maybe eligible for VA pension benefits.
