(SALEM) - Lobbyists, by definition, buy-and-sell influence via access, for private gain. Their major tool is corporate contributions, ostensibly for political campaign purposes, allowed only through egregious error by “the Supremes”.

The two-day stunner-deal on kicker-drain into Rainy Day Fund proves up the pattern precisely; this time, fully-obvious even to the naive eye-and-understanding of too many Oregonians.

36 Marion, Polk, Yamhill Liquor Licensees Pass OLCC Compliance Testing

The testing is part of the OLCC’s effort to curtail underage drinking in Oregon.

(SALEM) - Thirty-six of 42 licensed businesses tested in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties refused to sell alcohol to a minor during a recent compliance operation conducted by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.

However, four Salem area licensed businesses sold alcohol to the minor decoy.

Servers and bartenders or licensees whose employees provide alcohol to the minor or fail to verify their age, are subject to OLCC administrative sanctions including fines or license suspensions.

Knife Wielding Bicycle Rider Towing Trailer Arrested in Keizer

Police say the theft of a rototiller turned into a menacing and armed robbery case.

(KEIZER) - Keizer Police Officers responded to the True Value Hardware store on River Road N Thursday afternoon just before 4:00 PM on a reported theft of a Rototiller. Employees told the police that it had just occurred, and that a citizen was chasing the suspect who had loaded the stolen tiller on a bicycle trailer and was pulling it away.

The thief with the rototiller was chased into the parking lot of Safeway located in the 4900 block of River Road N where he was caught by the citizen. That's when a fight ensued as the citizen attempted to detain the suspect.

Month Long Investigation Pays Off for Polk County Narcotics Team

Police say a search of the man's home revealed a loaded handgun, drugs and paraphernalia.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Polk County Sheriff's deputies took advantage of a traffic stop this week, serving a search warrant on a driver they pulled over Wednesday afternoon on Highway 22 near 50th Avenue in Dallas.

Around 3:20 PM Wednesday, a maroon Acura driven by 23-year old Carlos Ramirez was stopped by deputies who realized that the driver had a warrant for his arrest issued by the Polk County Inter-agency Narcotics Team. Police Arrest Man in Salem Carrying Five Pounds of Crystal Meth in a Cardboard Box

The driver of the car escaped police.

(SALEM) - A man was arrested Thursday morning when he ran from a vehicle during a traffic stop in Salem carrying a box that police say contained approximately 5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine.

The driver fled in the vehicle that was found abandoned a few blocks from the original stop location.

(OREGON CITY) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office continued the search today for missing 80-year-old Dena Kline and her 1990 teal-colored Honda (Idaho license plates K332915).

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit continued searching along the upper Willamette River -- particularly in the area of the Canby Ferry and Hebb Park.

No new signs of Dena Kline were discovered along this portion of the Willamette River.

Salem, Junction City Selected for New State Mental Health Facilities

(SALEM) - Governor Kulongoski on Wednesday, delivered to the Oregon Legislature recommendations for the location of two new state mental health facilities -- a 620-bed hospital on the existing site in Salem and a 360-bed hospital in Junction City -- to replace the outdated Oregon State Hospital and improve the lives of Oregonians with mental illness.

The Phase I Report identified the structural and systemic challenges facing the Oregon State Hospital’s Salem Campus and concluded that Oregon should proceed with both the replacement of the Hospital facility and a redesign of the entire public mental health system.

State of the City: Mayor Optimistic About Salem`s Future

(SALEM) - Salem Mayor Janet Taylor gave her fifth State of the City address on Wednesday.

The mayor said with Monday's announcement by Delta Airlines to begin service in June, along with the $275 million expansion project underway at Salem Hospital, and the future $56 million Salvation Army Kroc Community Center, shows the city is moving in the right direction.

CIM Completion Rate Uneven in Oregon

The percentage of graduates earning a CIM decreased this year from 37% to 31%.

(SALEM) - State Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo announced Wednesday that a total of 37,912 students completed four years of high school in 2006.

“Students earning a CIM have met all state standards in writing, math, reading, science, and public speaking, and the CIM represents a high level of achievement,” Castillo said.

“I appreciate the hard work it takes for students to reach these standards. However, the CIM is not required in order to graduate, and it is not well-understood and widely accepted. Working with the State Board of Education and our partners across the state, Oregon has developed new high school requirements that make sense to students, parents, educators, employers and colleges..."
