Democrats Lead House to Broad Support for `Renew Oregon` Biofuels Plan

The Renew Oregon Plan now moves to the Oregon Senate for approval.

(SALEM) - A biofuels legislation package championed by House Democrats was approved in the Oregon House last week with broad bi-partisan support.

Woodburn Apartment Damaged by Fire

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

(WOODBURN) - Woodburn and Hubbard Fire Districts responded on a report of an apartment fire at 1469 Park Ave, Apt #10 on Saturday afternoon.

Upon arrival crews found a burning mattress had been removed from the apartment.

Firefighters extinguished what active fire was still in the room and prevented further damage to the structure and contents.

Postal Carrier Arrested for Distributing Marijuana

Berkan's arrest came after a near year-long investigation begun by the U.S. Postal Service

(PORTLAND) - Ronald "Rick" Richard Berkan, Jr., 46, was arrested March 1, 2007 at his home in Vernonia, Oregon by federal and state officers following his indictment by a federal grand jury on two counts of Distributing Marijuana to an Underage Individual in violation of federal statutes.

Investigators say these charges stem from Berkan's sale of pound quantities of marijuana to a buyer who was between 16 and 19 years of age, to include occasions when he was operating his postal truck in the Cedar Mill area of Washington County. Under federal statute, Title 21 of the United States Code, Section 859, it is a felony to distribute a controlled substance to a person under the age of 21 years.

USDA: Ground Beef Recalled Due to Possible E. Coli Contamination

The ground beef was produced on Feb. 16th, 2007 and was sent to distributors in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

(SEATTLE) - Tyson Fresh Meats, a Wallula, Wash., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 16,743 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department 4 of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

The products subject to recall include: 60-pound boxes containing six 10-pound chubs of "ROUND, COARSE GROUND BEEF, 85/15."

The box end also bears a label with the establishment number "Est. 9268" as well as a "BEST BEFORE OR FROZEN BY" date of "03/08/07" and packaging date "02/16/07."

Collision With a Farm Vehicle Kills Tillamook Man

The crash is still under investigation with the assistance of an Oregon State Police crash reconstructionist.

(TILLAMOOK) - A Tillamook-area man died Friday afternoon from injuries sustained when the car he was driving crashed into the back of a farm implement westbound on Highway 6 just east of Tillamook.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates announced this afternoon that he has accepted the resignation of Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey in light of allegations of shortfalls in care of outpatients at Walter Reed Army Medical Center here.

Published reports in February shed light on shortcomings in outpatient care for troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nye Beach Turns Murder Into a Festival of Fun, March 10th and 11th

It’s called the Nye Beach Murder Mystery Weekend, and it’s growing by leaps and bounds in this historic neighborhood of the Oregon coast resort town of Newport.

Peanut Butter Toppings Recalled Due to Salmonella Outbreak

(ATLANTA) - As a follow-up to the recent Salmonella outbreak linked to peanut butter, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is conducting an extensive inspection of ConAgra's Sylvester, Georgia processing plant.

Samples collected by the FDA revealed the presence of Salmonella.

The fact that FDA found Salmonella in the plant environment further suggests that the contamination likely took place prior to the product reaching consumers.
