Oregon School Exclusions Begin Wednesday

Last school year, 3,466 exclusion orders were issued to children with incomplete records in Marion County.

(SALEM) - Public health officials in the Oregon Department of Human Services are encouraging parents to be sure their children's shots are up to date so they won't be sent home from school.

Beginning Wednesday, children won't be able to go to school if their school or child-care records show they are missing immunizations and do not have an appropriate medical or religious exemption.

Efforts to Rescue 3 Climber`s on Oregon`s Mount Hood Intensify

The three, two women and a man, spent the night in a sleeping bag, cold and wet, but alive.

(GOVERNMENT CAMP) - Rescue efforts for the 3 climbers stranded on Oregon's Mount Hood since Sunday continue feverishly Monday morning.

Pinpointing the exact location of these climbers in White River Canyon of Mount Hood has been challenging; although, SAR personnel feel confident they have identified the precise location of the missing climbers.

UPDATE Oregon`s Mount Hood Search & Rescue Effort Moving Closer to Remaining 3

The weather conditions remain harsh with a stiff wind, freezing temperatures and heavy snow falling.

(MOUNT HOOD) - Rescue personnel on Mt. Hood say they are working diligently to reach the 3 climbers that remain in distress.

The most current information reveals a recent cell phone communication has been completed between the 3 climbers and a Portland Mountain Rescue coordinator.

Portland Mountain Rescue personnel are now assessing this new information received during this brief conversation and are considering options in dealing with this newly acquired information in their efforts to locate the group.

Salem House Fire Caused by Clogged Dryer Vent

Firefighters say they found many fire hazards in the home including lit candles left burning in the garage, a portable space heater with a curtain hanging over it, and electrical outlets without covers.

(SALEM) - Salem firefighters responded to a house fire Sunday evening at 6:20 PM at 478 Hawthorne Avenue NE.

Fire Department Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says the occupant Anaya Arturo and his family were at home when they checked the clothes in the dryer and discovered the inside of the dryer was on fire.

"When firefighters arrived on scene, Captain Wayne Ayers reported that the dryer inside the garage was engulfed in flames." Holmstrom says firefighters made entry inside the structure through the garage door and the fire was quickly extinguished.

5 Climbers Rescued From Mt. Hood, 3 Still Stranded on Mountain

The 3 additional climbers who reportedly fell over a ledge are located some 150' down a steep section of the mountain very close to the rescued 5 climbers.

(MT. HOOD) - The 5 climbers rescued from Mount Hood have arrived at Timberline Lodge and are all reported in good condition.

The remaining 3 climbers are still being addressed by rescue personnel who remain on the mountain; enduring harsh weather conditions in an effort to locate and come to the aid of the missing 3 climbers.

These 3 climbers are the individuals who had reportedly fallen over a ledge, separated from the original climbing party and were out of communication.

Searchers Reach 8 Climbers Stranded on Oregon`s Mt. Hood

The 3 additional climbers who reportedly fell over a ledge are located some 150' down a steep section of the mountain very close to the rescued 5 climbers.

(MT HOOD) - Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue personnel have announced that the rescue team dispatched to assist the 8 climbers are making great progress with this ongoing mission despite whiteout conditions on Mt. Hood.

The rescue personnel are with the 5 climbers who were directed earlier to take shelter in a snow cave.

These 5 are being assisted down the mountain at this time.

UPDATE: Five Climbers Located, Three Still Missing on Oregon`s Mt. Hood

Three climbers fall, five others told to build a snow cave.

(MT. HOOD) - At noon today, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office received word that a total of 8 climbers were in the area of Illumination Saddle.

The elevation was estimated at 8,320 feet.

For some unknown reason 3 of these climbers had fallen an undetermined distance.

The 3 climbers who have fallen are not visible, or in communication with the remaining members of the climbing party.

Helicopter Crash Kills 8 Coalition Troops, 14 Wounded in Afghanistan

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Eight coalition personnel were killed and 14 others were wounded early today when a coalition CH-47 helicopter had a sudden, unexplained loss of power and control and crashed in eastern Afghanistan, military officials reported.

A search-and-rescue operation was launched immediately to secure the site, recover the passengers and transport wounded personnel to coalition medical facilities for treatment.

The helicopter was transporting a total of 22 people, including aircrew, at the time of the crash.

FDA Warning Consumers of Baby Food Contamination

No illnesses have been reported to FDA or the manufacturer to date in connection with the contamination.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to use certain jars of Earth’s Best Organic 2 Apple Peach Barley Wholesome Breakfast baby food because of the risk of contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause botulism, a life-threatening illness or death.

Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

The affected product was sold in single individual jars and in variety packs (which contains 4 jars of the apple peach barley in the pack along with other varieties).

Eugene-Area Teen Dies in Skiing Accident at Willamette Pass Resort

The boy received multiple injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding medical personnel.

(WILLAMETTE PASS) - A 13-year old Eugene-area boy died Saturday afternoon in a skiing accident at Willamette Pass Resort ski area. The boy's name will be released later Saturday evening.

The victim traveled to the ski area Saturday with his mother reportedly as part of a Boy Scout outing.

According to a witness, the boy was skiing downhill on a lower mountain intermediate run when he attempted to turn and travel across the hill. The boy lost control and struck the root ball of a
downed tree.
