Arson Task Force Completes Portland Church Fire Investigation

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

(PORTLAND) - The Metro Arson Task Force has finished the investigation of the site of the 4-alarm fire at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

Investigators want to make it clear that the actual fire site is only one part of the process of investigating the cause of the fire.

Several samples were taken from the interior of the church and submitted to a lab for analysis.

Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake Reported Sunday off Oregon Coast

This is the fourth quake off the Oregon coast in the past few weeks.

(BANDON) - The USGS says a magnitude 4.5 earthquake shook off the Oregon coast Sunday morning at 7:34 AM.

The quake was centered 147 miles WNW from the town of Bandon, and had a depth of 8.3 miles.

State Issues Lottery Bonds to Fund Transportation, Campus Improvements, and Economic Development

(SALEM) - Governor Ted Kulongoski has announced that the state of Oregon has issued $153.6 million in lottery revenue bonds to fund critical projects in transportation, economic development, and maintenance of facilities on state university campuses.

About $72.1 million of the bond proceeds will pay for transportation projects under “ConnectOregon,” the Governor’s program to upgrade ports, rail facilities, airports and other non-highway projects around the state.

Three Children Taken Into Protective Custody After Drug Bust

(MONMOUTH) - The Polk County Interagency Narcotics Team and the Department of Human Services – Child Welfare Unit responded to a residence in the 300 block of Echols St. in Monmouth on Thursday, after a complaint was made of possible drug activity in the home as well as concern for children that lived at the residence.

When the deputies arrived, one of the occupants of the home, 30-year-old Danielle J. Smallwood answered the door and consented in letting the deputies enter and search the home

Sign Damaged at Salem Marine Corps Recruiting Office

The Sheriff's Office is investigating but there are no suspects at this time.

(SALEM) - Police say vandals with an apparent anti-war message damaged a sign at the Marine Corps Recruiting office in Salem Thursday night.

A Marine Corps recruiter contacted the Marion Sheriff's Office Friday to report damage that had been done to the sign on the roof of the U.S. Marine Corps recruiting station at 3060 Lancaster Dr NE in Salem. Investigators believe that it happened some time between the evening of Wednesday, February 7th and Friday morning.

The sign, a lighted sign of an American flag, had damage to the frame as well as the glass face. A homemade sign that said "Stop Illegal and Immoral War" had been put over the broken sign.
