UPDATE: Ammonia Leak Forces Evacuation of Rainsweet, Oregon Cherry Growers Building`s in Northeast Salem

(SALEM) - The Salem Fire Department is in the clean-up stages after an ammonia leak forced Rainsweet and Oregon Cherry Growers employees to evacuate the building.

The call came in at 8:00 AM at the Rain Sweet plant located at 1460 Sunnyview Road NE according to Salem fire spokesman Bill Holmstrom.

Holmstrom said that some employees were evaluated at the scene but no employees were transported to the hospital.

California Man Leads Oregon Police on High-Speed Chase

The suspect, 34-year-old Donyeil Johnson, is at the Salem Hospital being treated for a dog bite.

(SALEM) - This morning, at 12:25 AM, deputies from the Lane County Sheriffs Office requested Oregon State Police assistance in a vehicle pursuit that was northbound on Interstate 5 at milepost 195.

Deputies had attempted to stop a black Infiniti for failure to yield.

Troopers from the Albany Area Command set up with spike strips at milepost 224 but were unsuccessful in spiking the Infiniti.

An inch of snow is possible on the valley floor Wednesday.

(SALEM) - Frigid weather is on the way to Oregon and the mid-Willamette Valley.

The National Weather Service says a blast of cold air from Canada will arrive Wednesday and linger into the weekend.

A cold front will bring rain Tuesday then showers will have snow mixed in rain overnight as the snow level drops.

The snow level is expected to lower to 500 feet in the north part of the state Wednesday morning and in the south part of the state Wednesday afternoon.

Salem-Keizer School Bus Driver Nearly Killed Monday Morning While Walking to Work

Police are now looking for a silver or light gray 1995 - 2000 Dodge Stratus, Plymouth Breeze or Chrysler Cirrus.

(SALEM) - A Salem-Keizer School District bus driver was in critical condition late Monday night following three hours of surgery for head injuries he suffered in a hit-and-run accident earlier in the day.

Salem police spokesman Lt. Dan Deitz says 65-year-old Gary Phillips of Salem was struck about 6:10 AM at the Hawthorne Ave and D Street intersection near the Salem-Keizer School District’s bus barn.

Gary and his wife Linda have been married for 42 years and have five children, three daughters, who live in Salem, two sons, and 12 grandchildren.

Police Seeking Suspect in Canby Chopped Vehicle Case

Fisher in known to frequent the Portland, Oregon City and Canby areas.

(CANBY) - Canby Police are looking for 22-year-old Robert Lawrence Fisher in connection to a stolen chopped vehicle that was recovered in Canby on November 27th.

Fisher was selling parts from the vehicle on a internet site called VWVORTEX.COM

(SALEM) - Oregon's 74th Legislature got under way this morning when the House opened for business.

At 8:40 AM, House chief clerk Ramona Kenady asked the 60 members to take their seats and turned over the gavel temporarily to Republican Representative Bob Jenson of Pendleton, the House's senior member.

Democrat Jeff Merkley of Portland was chosen House speaker.

Update: Salem-Keizer School District Bus Driver Critically Injured in Hit-And-Run Accident

Police have identified the victim as 65-year-od Gary Phillips of Salem.

(SALEM) - Salem police are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver and vehicle that was involved in an hit-and-run accident Monday morning in northeast Salem.

Salem police spokesman Lt. Dan Deitz says the victim was struck just after 6:00 AM at the Hawthorne Ave and D Street intersection near the Salem-Keizer School District’s bus barn.

Police are looking for a silver car, which has it’s driver’s side mirror missing.

Police also believe the car may have sustained hood, windshield, fender, and roof damage.
