Serious Crash Shuts Down I-5 at Ankney Hill

Editor Note: Since the filing of this report, the driver of the Camry has unfortunately passed away.

(SALEM) - A 22-year old Grants Pass man was seriously injured Wednesday morning after losing control of his car southbound on Interstate 5 near Ankeny Hill
interchange where he was struck broadside by another vehicle.

The crash led to the closure of southbound lanes for about one hour, and one of the involved drivers credits safety belts for saving his life.

Salem`s Neighborhood Watch Program Meets Goal

98.7% of all reported residential burglaries occurred in homes that did not participate in Neighborhood Watch

(SALEM) - The Salem Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit announced today that the city of Salem has reached, and in fact, surpassed its goal of having 5,000 households participating in its core crime prevention program, Neighborhood Watch.

Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that emphasizes bringing residents together to learn about preventing criminal activity, while promoting neighborhood safety. The program focuses on observation, awareness, and establishing a “watch out for each other” atmosphere. The connection between neighbors, that the program encourages, helps reduce the opportunity for crime, such as residential burglaries.

OSU Student Victim of Fatal Crash, One Student Still Missing

The two students were last seen on Hwy 138E West of Diamond Lake

(ROSEBURG) - The body of a missing Oregon State Student was recovered Tuesday afternoon from the North Umpqua River. She was one of two OSU students who were the focus of an intensive search after they were reported missing Monday.

Fatal Traffic Crash Tuesday on Hwy 34

Both vehicles ended up in the ditch on the north side of the roadway

(CORVALLIS) - A 19-year old Newport woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Highway 34 about three miles east of Corvallis.

Official say that on November 21st at about 8:40 AM, a 1992 Geo Metro was eastbound on Highway 34 near milepost 3 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 2006 Honda Pilot.

The operator of the Honda, Leslie Ann Howard, age 61, of Albany, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with non-life threatening injuries.

Salem Hospital Urgent Care Center to be Open on Holidays This Year

(SALEM) - Salem Hospital's Urgent Care Center is extending its hours for the upcoming holiday season, in an effort to support the Salem Hospital's busy emergency room, and to provide additional resources to the community for minor illness and injury.

The Salem Hospital Urgent Care Center will be open:

Thanksgiving, Nov. 23rd, from noon to 6:00 PM.

Dec. 23rd, 24th and 25th, noon to 6:00 PM.

Dec. 31st and Jan. 1st, 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM.

Public Input Sought on Three Pools Day Use Area Improvements

Portland International Airport Offers Tips For a Smooth Holiday Journey

The busiest holiday period, Dec. 15th-Jan. 3rd, should see nearly 800,000 passengers traveling through PDX.

(PORTLAND ) - The Port of Portland expects more holiday travelers than ever this year at Portland International Airport (PDX), and has a few tips to make travel easy.

In the week surrounding Thanksgiving, an estimated 320,000 passengers will travel through PDX -- a 2 percent increase over 2005.

During the busiest forecasted holiday days -- Nov. 22nd, 26th and 27th, and Dec. 22nd and 26th-28th -- PDX will serve approximately 48,000 travelers each day, compared to the normal daily average of 38,000 this time of year.

Oregon Department of Agriculture Offers Food Safety Advice For The Holiday Season

A safe meal can be ensured through proper food handling, preparation, and storage. Slacking off in any of the three areas could spell trouble.
