A crippling social injustice toward a silent minority- the elderly.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Child abuse is heard of and seen in the media almost daily in the United States. It is something that drives people to donate money to help children in need, to have people rally together to fundraise, and the thought of a helpless child being abused is like a dagger to the heart for most people.

What is even more painful is that there is another defenseless group of humans being abused where stories of it rarely make it to the television, that people rarely think about, and that not many people think about donating money towards: our elders.

(Adra al-Omal, DAMASCUS, Syria) - Last week’s battle for Adra al-Omalia was a significant turning point. The town is now liberated but the story of what took place here over the past 291 days is presently emerging, and it is a horrifying one.

With a pre-massacre population of over 100,000, Adra housed 600 manufacturing plants and grain silos. It was a key area. The occupation of Adra al-Omalia lasted nearly ten months, commencing in December 11, 2013. Many apartments in the area were quickly burned or gutted with grenades or other explosive devices. What quickly took place was a massacre, and many eyewitness accounts of the events are now surfacing.

Oregon Farmers Ending Hunger Host First Empty Bowls Fundraiser

(SALEM, Ore.) - Farmers Ending Hunger, an Oregon non-profit led by Marion County resident John Burt, partners with area farmers who donate extra crops of fresh ingredients to be processed and transported to the Oregon Food Bank for use in the emergency relief food boxes.

The group is hosting its first Empty Bowls fundraiser (dinner and auction) on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 6-8 pm. The event is $15 and includes a bowl of soup and a slice of bread.
