Reward Offered in Homicide Case

Kell was known for hanging out around Salem's Transit Mall.

(SALEM) - A private citizen has established a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the death of 20-year old June "Candy " Kell, whose body was discovered burning by a Salem Patrol Officer at 1:00 AM, Tuesday, August 29th, 2006. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Kell's body was found underneath the bridge located in the 500 block of 13th St. SE in Salem. The State Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and is
waiting on the result of various lab tests. Detectives have conducted a number of interviews with people who knew, saw or were with Kell during the days leading up to the discovery of her body.

Oregon-Oklahoma Game Controversy: Stoops Says Officials Were, Absolutely Inexcusable And Unacceptable.

Earlier Monday, the Pac-10 apologized to the University and suspended the games officiating crew for one game.

(NORMAN, Ok.) - Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops reacted sharply Monday night when asked about the Pacific-10 Conference's announcement earlier in the day that it had apologized to OU and handed down a one-game suspension to the officiating crew working last Saturday's game at Oregon.

The Sooner coach said that the actions of the officials were, "absolutely inexcusable and unacceptable."

Pac-10 Apologizes to Oklahoma, Suspends Crew

(WALNUT CREEK, Ca.) - The Pacific-10 Conference has suspended for one game the officiating crew and the instant replay officials that worked Saturday's Oklahoma at Oregon football game and apologized to the University of Oklahoma for the officiating on a key play in the game.

A review by Pacific-10 Conference officials of video of the game revealed that both the instant replay officials and the game officials assigned by the Conference made errors in the final minute and 12 seconds of the game, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen said Monday.

Penitentiary Inmate Dies From Apparent Suicide

With only 10 months left to serve, Kenneth Baker was found hanging in his cell.

(SALEM) - State prison officials say Inmate Kenneth Daniel Baker was found hanging in his single-person disciplinary segregation cell at Oregon State Penitentiary Friday at 9:00 PM.

Penitentiary staff and paramedics resuscitated Baker.

He was transported to Salem Hospital by ambulance where he remained in critical condition until his death Monday at approximately 6:00 PM with family members present.

56-year old Kenneth Baker was admitted to prison from Lane County on August 5th, 1999.

Controllers at Salem’s McNary Field Spot Possible Funnel Cloud

While funnel clouds are rare in Oregon, the National Weather Service says this is the time of year for funnel clouds.

(SALEM) - Air Traffic Controllers at Salem’s McNary Field spotted what they thought was a funnel cloud Monday.

Three Alarm Fire in Albany Called Suspicious

Four apartments on the corner of First and Broadalbin were evacuated due to the fire.

(ALBANY) - The Albany Fire Department responded to a first alarm structure fire at 300 SW Second Avenue just before 1:45 AM Monday morning.

It quickly became a second alarm and was moved up to a third alarm fire at 2:02 AM.

Scio, Adair, Lebanon, Corvallis, Tangent, and Jefferson Fire Departments were called in to assist at the scene as well as cover the city with any other emergencies.

Semi-Truck Fire on I-5 Shuts Traffic Down at Milepost 246 Near Jefferson.

Both lanes of I-5 southbound were closed for over an hour.

(JEFFERSON) - Jefferson Firefighters responded to a semi-truck fire, on I-5 southbound just before the N. Jefferson Exit at milepost 246. The fire tied up southbound traffic during the early morning commute.

The truck, owned by Dynamic Distribution, was headed to Grants Pass with a load of frozen, deli, and dry food that eventually was headed for distribution to Cash & Carry outlets in Northern California.

(SALEM ) - Crews are cleaning-up a semi-truck fire that occurred Monday morning on Interstate 5 south, near the Sunnyside/Turner exit.

Traffic is creeping through the area, and ODOT said delays could be as long as one, possibly two hours.

No word yet on why the truck caught fire, or the condition of the truck's driver.

(SALEM) - A meeting to discuss ways to improve Oregon’s broken health care system will be held Wednesday, September 27th, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the First Congregational Church located at 700 Marion St. N.E.

Sponsored by the newly-forming Salem Chapter of the Archimedes Movement, the meeting is free and open to the public.

The community meeting is one of many being held across Oregon to encourage citizens to share insights and discuss possible next steps in formulating a new health care system that will ensure effective and affordable health care is available to everyone.
