Oregon Gasoline Prices Climbing; Diesel at Record Highs across the State

Oregon gasoline prices on the rise; national dropping. Big story is price of diesel. National avg. is up only 2-cents per gallon since last week. Oregon is up 15-cents per gallon to $3.35.

(SALEM) - As the national average gasoline price backed off by about 4-cents to $3 per gallon during the past week, Oregon's average price went up by almost a nickel to $3.04.

Fire Investigators Closing in on Answers (UPDATE)

Fire investigators spent the day inside McMahan's but detailed information on their findings may not be available immediately.

(SALEM) - Fire investigators in Salem have confirmed that the fire at McMahan's Furniture last Thursday started in the basement. Salem Fire's Bill Holmstrom says investigators were released to enter certain parts of the bulding Monday at 2:00 PM.

Structural engineers make are responsible for determining whether anyone can enter a dangerous building like McMahan's. Holmstrom says they are able to get into most of the buliding, "The only part of the building they're not allowed on is the third floor."

Oregon’s Unemployment Rate Rises to 5.6 Percent in July

The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.8 percent in July.

(SALEM) - Oregon's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in July was essentially unchanged at 5.6 percent, from 5.4 percent in June. The state's unemployment rate has been stable this year, staying between 5.3 percent and 5.6 percent since January.

Oregon's seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment added 3,900 jobs in July. That made up for a decline of 3,700 jobs in June, according to revised figures. Over the past 12 months, payroll employment added 51,500 jobs to grow by 3.1 percent.

Lake George Fire Near Sisters Grows to Nearly 2,000 Acres Monday

The fire has forced the closure of the McKenzie Highway.

(SISTERS) - The Lake George Fire burning 13 miles west of Sisters in the Mt. Washington Wilderness on the Deschutes National Forest, is currently 1,950 acres in size.

Agencies on this fire include the USDA Forest Service, the USDI Bureau of Land Management, the Oregon Department of Forestry and the National Guard from Cheyenne WY.

(SALEM) - It is much easier to put things down when you never really see the subject of your insults up close.

Salem Bombs Were All Attached to Cars

Police reveal that the two bombs found on the ground actually fell off cars they had been attached to.

(SALEM) - Salem Police are releasing more information on last week’s pipe bomb incidents in Salem and Dallas. It now appears that all four bombs were attached to cars owned by south Salem residents.

Two of the pipe bombs were found on the ground; one in the parking lot at Roth’s IGA on Lancaster Drive NE, and one at the intersection of Woodland Drive and Jon Mart in south Salem.

One was discovered attached to a car in a Salem Hospital parking area, and the fourth bomb was found attached to a car at the TYCO Electronics factory in Dallas.

Fire Investigators Return to McMahan`s

Investigators are close to entering the burned building, which had to be partially dismantled over safety concerns.

(SALEM) - Salem Fire investigators returned to the scene of an intense downtown fire Monday morning. McMahan's Furniture burned Thursday, and firefighters could do little but protect other neighboring businesses, which they succeeded in doing.

Investigators have had to stand by, as structural engineers assess the building's level of safety for entry. Until investigators are inside, little will be known about the cause of the fire.
