The Oregon State Police website that lists the names and addresses of predatory sex offenders shows that many in the Salem-Keizer area are living within a one mile radius or closer to schools and neighborhood parks.
For example, a search of North Salem High School and Parrish Middle School addresses found that 25 predatory sex offenders live within a one-mile radius of the schools. Of course there are a lot of schools in Salem and that is only fair to consider. But it doesn’t mean people want their kids walking by the homes of predatory sex offenders.
Other locations in those areas include Barrick Field, Royal Park and Olinger Pool, all popular destinations for kids during the summer.

Canby Fire units rose to the alert of a fire in a residence Tuesday morning at 7:45 AM. Firefighters enroute knew they were going to have a hot one on their hands, spotting a large column on brownish white smoke rising from the location.
As crews closed the gap they could confirm that they had a "Working Fire." In lieu of the geographic location, and enroute resources, a second alarm was requested.
Fire District Division Chief Troy Buzalsky, says the first company on scene reported that they had heavy fire and smoke coming from the front side of the structure.
The trio clung together on an ice chest and locked their legs together to stay warm for over 7 hours until help arrived.

For Bob Templin and his two friends, a gorgeous day of tuna fishing on the Oregon coast turned nearly catastrophic when their boat capsized, forcing them to spend hours floating at sea, 45 miles from shore.
At first, everything was fine. "It got hot so one of the guys took his life jacket off," said Bob Templin, captain and owner of the boat, the Cape Falcon.
"Then he got a fish on, and that's when I noticed the boat was listing. I went down to check out the holding tank, and noticed it had water in it, turned on the bilge pump and went back on deck. After a few minutes, I went back down to check the pump and the water was still coming in. By the time I got back on deck, the stern of the boat was going down."
At the same time Templin was checking the bilge pump, one of the passengers called MAYDAY on the radio.
