Ackley Receives State`s Highest Corrections Award

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Receiving the department's highest honor, the Amos Reed Award, was Richard Ackley of Salem. Ackley is security manager of Columbia River Correctional Institution in Portland.

The Amos Reed Award is presented to an individual is presented to an employee who has served exceptionally well in his or her regular work assignment, and who has displayed outstanding leadership qualities in areas of mentorship, team building, and personal and professional integrity.

Organizers urge people to "Take the Test" and "Take Control"

(SALEM) - To commemorate National HIV Testing Day and the 25th Anniversary of HIV/AIDS, the Marion County Health Department will offer free anonymous or confidential HIV testing on Tuesday, June 27th, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Friday, June 30th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Health
Department at 3180 Center St. NE. Hepatitis A and B vaccines will also be available for those who qualify.

A Salem Summertime tradition returns tonight, as what started out as a one-time fundraiser to help someone in need has become an annual gathering not to be missed.

(SALEM) - The formula is simple, mix street roads with the thunder of drag racing cars, add in venders and kids activities, and what you get is an evening of good, clean fun, and the making of great memories.

This year The Night of Fire will take place on the Morningstar Church grounds. `Morningstar Church is our best venue yet,` comments Mike Adams, who has helped coordinate the event since the beginning five years ago. `It's bigger than the shopping centers we have used in the past and the grassy park like setting makes this a more enjoyable environment. Plus there is plenty of parking for everyone. We`re working hard to bring in the top local drag racing cars, street rods, venders, prizes, and activities that have made our shows so unique.`

It`s not just a car show though, every year a benefactor for the money raised is selected. This year it`s a baby boy named Joshua.

New Farmers Market in South Salem Fridays

(SALEM) - South Salem residents who like fresh vegetables and fresh air have a new way to spend their Friday summer afternoons.

The South Salem Farmer's Market is in its third week, and runs Fridays from 2:00 PM till 8:00 PM. It is located at Salem Heights Hall on Liberty near the cross street of Madronna.

Carl E McClellan runs a business out of South Salem called Mr TieDye. His tyedie 't'-shirt business is a big hit at the Wednesday Farmer's Market in downtown Salem, and a good example of the variety of products that go well beyond the traditional farmer's fare.

Courtney and Winters Announce Innovative Solutions to Fight Meth

They say cooperation between the public and private sectors is the key to success.

(SALEM) - Oregon senators say they have a better idea on how to go about fighting meth, and few in the community would disagree that more innovative solutions to the growing epidemic associated with methamphetamine are necessary. The new ideas stem from reports turned in by a Blue Ribbon task force that was funded by the 2005 legislature.

The findings of the community based Blue Ribbon Task Force on Methamphetamine, charged with coordinating resources to better combat the methamphetamine epidemic, were presented to a legislative committee Thursday. The task force, operating on a grant from the 2005 Legislature and co-chaired by Senate President Peter Courtney (D-Salem) and Senator Jackie Winters (R-Salem), provided legislators with an update on the group`s progress.

OSP Detectives Continue Searching for Possible Pedestrian Victim East of Klamath Falls

Witnesses say the woman was hit by a car, then loaded inside along with debris that fell from the crash.

(KLAMATH FALLS) - Oregon State Police investigators are continuing to ask for
information related to a report late Tuesday night that an injured female was seen being placed in an unknown white passenger car along Highway 140E near Beatty about 50 miles east of Klamath Falls.

Troopers and detectives who responded to the scene located evidence, including human blood, but has not been able to locate a possible victim to determine her condition and if a crime has been committed.
