(KEIZER) - The Keizer Volunteer Firefighters Association will hold its annual Mothers Day Breakfast on Sunday May 14th, at the Keizer Fire Station, 661 Chemawa Rd. NE in Keizer.

Hours of the breakfast are 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

The menu includes all of the pancakes, eggs, and ham you can eat. Milk and coffee also will be served.

Willamette National Forest Proposes Changes to Improve Recreation at Detroit Lake

Increased use and unruly behavior has raised a critical need to take management actions to promote safety and security and improve resource conditions.

(DETROIT) - In an ongoing effort to improve the recreation experience at Detroit Lake, the Willamette National Forest is proposing changes that help promote a safer, family atmosphere.

Dani Pavoni with the Detroit ranger District says concerns have been raised by many people: the recreating public, local and summer home residents, concessionaire, camp hosts, permittees, law enforcement officials, and ranger district staff.

Record high gas prices throughout the Oregon and the nation haven't slowed visitors to such attractions as the Oregon Garden and the Oregon Coast Aquarium, though the Travel Industry Association of America says current fuel costs adds $30 to $50 to a typical family vacation

(SALEM) - With gas prices nearing or in some cases surpassing three dollars a gallon, Oregonians and visitors to the state are still finding extra money to enjoy area attractions.

In Salem the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas on Monday was at $2.88.9.

At the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, attendance so far this spring is up 13 percent. Aquarium President Dave Schmidt says he attributes the increase in attendance to people wanting to stay closer to home because of the gas prices.

Last year, when gas prices climbed, the TIA estimated that the higher prices tacked an extra $40 to $45 onto the total average vacation expense.

Passenger Dies in Rollover Crash South of Salem

(SALEM) - A single vehicle roll over crash occurred at approximately 1020 pm on April
29th at mile point 242 on Interstate 5, South of Salem. Police say a 2003 Nissan Altima struck the median guardrail and rolled over ejecting several of the occupants.

Police are working to confirm the age of the driver, Carlos Cabrera of Baldwin Park, Ca, who sustained minor injuries. A female passenger, 21-year old Mayra Hinojosa, sustained serious injuries. Both Cabrera and Hinojosa were transported to Salem Hospital.

Another passenger, 38-year old Roberto Miguel Cabrera, was transported to Good Samaritan hospital in Corvallis with critical injuries.

Two-Year Old Attacked by Rotweiler on State Fairgrounds

The girl has reportedly been transferred to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland where she is in stable condition.

(SALEM) - State Police say a two-year old girl from Tangent who was walking with her mother and grandmother was injured after a chained Rotweiller suddenly attacked her, causing a non-life threatening chest injury.

OSP troopers are investigating the incident that occurred Saturday morning around 9:30 AM on State Fairgrounds property.

At about 9:30 AM, Susie Blatchford, her mother and her two-year old daughter were visiting an agriculture festival that is being held at the State Fairgrounds this weekend.

As the three moved through the parking lot and walked past a parked van, they say a large male Rotweiller chained to the van suddenly charged and reportedly attacked the child biting her in the
chest area.

Oregon State Police to Begin Training 34 OSP Recruits and 6 City Police Recruits

This will be the second time that outside police agencies are sending newly hired officers to the Oregon State Police Recruit School.

(SALEM) - As the Oregon State Police approaches its 75th anniversary, forty individuals, including 34 new Oregon State Police (OSP) recruits and 6 newly hired city police recruits, are beginning training May 1st, at the OSP Recruit School held at Camp Rilea located at the north Oregon coast south of Astoria.

In addition to ten OSP recruits hired following legislative E-board approval, the other 24 OSP recruits fill current vacancies resulting from attrition and retirements.

"The patrol function of the Oregon State Police is critical to creating safe communities and a strong economy and I'm pleased that the Senate President and House Speaker have joined me in helping to increase the number of officers who patrol our communities and protect our citizens," Governor Ted Kulongoski said.

"In addition to the patrol and fish & wildlife recruits, it is exciting to see the partnership and cooperation between state and local police agencies in this training environment that will pay dividends today and in the future."
