Crash Claims Life of St. Paul Man in Molalla

(Molalla) - A collision between a car and a semi-truck Saturday just before 2:00 PM at the intersection of State Hwy 170 and South Barnards Road in Molalla claimed the life of a St. Paul man and hospitalized the driver and the car`s additional passenger.

The man who died, 54-year old Thomas Arthur, was riding in a 1980 gold-colored Honda four door, driven by his daughter, 19-year old Angelin Rose January, also of Molalla. A second passenger, 19-year old Daniel K. Roth of Molalla, described as January`s fiancée, was also injured.

Life Flight and a ground ambulance transported the two injured occupants of the Honda after it collided with a fully loaded eighteen-wheeler, hauling lumber which was traveling northbound on Hwy 170...

Study Finds Oregon`s Strict Zoning Board Laws Doesn`t Prevent Conflict-of-Interest

(SALEM) - The potential for pro-development bias on zoning boards remains a problem, even in states such as Oregon that have enacted laws to solve the problem, according to a new study in The Urban Lawyer.

Professor Jerry L. Anderson of Drake University Law School, along with Dan Luebbering, a 2005 Drake law graduate, found that 40 percent of Oregon planning commissioners could be said to have some occupational bias regarding development activity.

While 24 percent had an occupation directly related to building and development, another 17 percent were engaged in occupations, such as floorcovering or lumber sales, that may be indirectly benefited by development projects.

"Oregon planning commissions are heavily weighted toward white-collar occupations and are vulnerable to pro-development bias," Anderson said.

OPIC Annual Awards Luncheon Set For April 25th in Salem

(SALEM) - The Oregon Partnership to Immunize Children (OPIC) Awards Luncheon, set for Tuesday, April 25th, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, honors individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to increasing
childhood and adolescent immunization awareness and the rate of immunizations in Oregon.

(SALEM) - Secretary of State Bill Bradbury on Thursday released an audit report detailing fraud by former Oregon State Landscape Architect Board Administrator Leslie Clement.

"Auditing is an essential check on state government," said Bradbury, "and I'm proud of our work with the state police and the district attorney to protect the taxpayers and put an end to this fraud."

After a tip and information provided through the audits hotline led to suspected criminal activity, Secretary of State auditors initiated a joint investigation with the Oregon State Police...

Capitol Immigration Rally Remains Peaceful (VIDEO)

(SALEM) - Thousands of people attended an immigrant rights rally Sunday at the state capitol in Salem. They came together in solidarity at state capitols throughout the nation, reminding Americans that unless they are Native Americans, that they live in a land settled by immigrants.

Counter protestors failed to materialize, just an occasional hateful statement was heard from passing cars along Court Street. Local TV crews from Portland were accused of being "liberal media" as they endeavored to complete their day's assignments, by the few jeering passers by.

Marijuana Bust May be Biggest in Lincoln County History

(SILETZ) - A tip from Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife troopers on boat patrol along the Siletz River led the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT) to locate what is believed to be the largest marijuana grow operation discovered in Lincoln County. One person was arrested, and additional arrests may be pending.

On Thursday, two OSP Fish & Wildlife troopers were on boat patrol along the Siletz River when they noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from property bordering the river with two buildings about 250 feet from the water.

The troopers provided the information to members of the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team.

On Friday, April 7th, LINT, along with members of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Lincoln City Police Department and OSP served a search warrant on the property, located at 17178 Siletz Highway...

Legislators Plan to Spend More on Schools

(PORTLAND AP) - Gathered around a podium at Benson High School in Portland Wednesday, key Republicans and Democrats alike proclaimed that a new day was dawning for Oregon schools.

With the blessing of House Speaker Karen Minnis, R-Wood Village, and Senate President Peter Courtney, D-Salem, legislators are poised to approve handing over $42 million in unexpected lottery revenue to public schools during next week's special session.

If approved, it would be the first time in years the state has announced a mid-biennium bonus - instead of a cutback - in school funding.
