Scholars and New York Firefighters Demanding Truth on 9/11 Events

(SALEM) - American professors and scholars have banded together with New York City firefighters and others, in intensive efforts to find out what really brought down the WTC towers on September 11th 2001, and to question U.S. officials about how two other jetliner crashes that day left no wreckage. More media outlets are suddenly waking up to the knowledge that there are glaring inconsistencies in the official story.

Pilot Project to Bridge Communication Gap Between Schools and Parents, Families

Stephens Middle School in Salem is one of the schools selected to participate in the pilot project.

(SALEM) - Ten Oregon schools have been selected to develop parent and family involvement policies as part of a pilot project, including Stephens Middle School in Salem.

Each school will receive a stipend of $1000 to develop and adopt new policies that foster better communication between parents and schools.

The project is part of the partnership between the Oregon Department of Education and Chalkboard Project to jumpstart parent and family involvement in schools and school districts. The Chalkboard Project provided the funds for the grants.

Bowling Alley Goes to Winner of Tournament

(VELVA, N.D. AP) - The former owner of an Oregon bowling alley has announced an unusual tournament at his new business in North Dakota.

The winner wins the bowling alley, its restaurant and the land it all stands on.

Darin Bail, who used to operate an alley in the Willamette Valley town of Dallas, bought the alley in Velva, North Dakota, two years ago but family matters keep him in Oregon much of the time.

Hopefuls pay an entry fee of 250 dollars. The prize goes to the bowler who comes closest to his own average, giving good bowlers and poor an equal chance.

Play Encourages Elementary School Students to Conserve Energy, Recycle

The play has saved the Salem-Keizer School District nearly one million dollars in energy costs.

(SALEM) - A play geared towards students attending elementary schools in Marion County is teaching them, and school staff, the importance of conserving energy and water, recycling, and protecting local watersheds by not dumping water down storm drains while at school, or at home.

The play, "Alice in Blunderland", features a talented cast consisting of Kat Hill, Salem-Keizer District Utility Conservation Specialist, Heidi Liedtke, Americorps Volunteer, and Deborah Topp, City of Salem Public Works Specialist. When performances end in May, the trio will have performed at nearly all of the districts elementary schools.

Hill says the play is fun, educational, and effective. So much so that by students and staff turning off unused electrical equipment such as lights and computers they have helped the Salem-Keizer School District avoid nearly one million dollars in energy costs over the last two years.

Linn Drug Team Search Warrant Leads to Arrests

(ALBANY) - Drug arrests in Albany and Lebanon in recent days have landed three residents in jail on a number of charges, the arrests also led to a child being removed from a home and placed in protective custody by the Department of Human Services.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says that on Wednesday April 12th, the Linn Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 1105 SW Washington St. in Albany. Seized in the raid were suspected Methamphetamine, scales, drug paraphernalia, cash, drug records and miscellaneous prescription pills.

Hundreds of Salem-Keizer Students Face Disciplinary Action

(SALEM) - Hundreds, possibly as many as one thousand Salem-Keizer high and middle school students will face disciplinary action for participating in Monday`s immigration reform rally at the Oregon State Capitol.

District spokesman Jay Remy says they will NOT give students who participated any special treatment.

Principals will follow the districts policy on truancy, or unexcused absences and they will face either in-school detention, or suspension from school based on the child`s school record Remy said.

At South Salem and McNary high schools, administrators say they urged students not to participate.

Fisherman Finds Salem Man Dead at Wallace Marine Park

(WEST SALEM) - Salem police and the Polk County Medical Examiner are investigating the death of a Salem man who was found lying in a wooded area of Wallace Marine Park in West Salem.

A fisherman found the body of 51-year-old Roger J Wilson from Salem.

Police says no foul play was suspected in the man`s death.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after 3:00 and found the body on the ground with a bicycle nearby.

Global Fears Drive Crude Oil, Gasoline Prices Upward

Energy speculators are driving prices up because of fears of military action against Iran, which could disrupt flow of oil, so far it has caused the average price in Salem to rise by 12-cents per gallon in one week, and 10-cents statewide.

(SALEM) - Concerns about the nuclear standoff with Iran and violence in Nigeria that could hurt oil production drove crude oil prices to more than $69 a barrel Tuesday, says AAA`s Elliot Eki. At the same time, the U.S. Department of Energy released its seasonal outlook, projecting that regular gasoline will average $2.62 per gallon, barring any unexpected supply disruptions. Yet, the national average price already is up to $2.69, up 33-cents in the past month and 41-cents higher than one year ago.

In the past week, Oregon's statewide average price rose by 10-cents to $2.61 for regular gasoline; in the Salem metropolitan area, as well as Eugene-Springfield, the average prices went up by 12 cents per gallon in the same time period.
