The fourth annual Car Free Day is Wednesday, April 19th.

Salem-Keizer middle and high school classes will take field trips using Cherriots.

While riding the bus, students can enter a prize drawing by completing a scavenger hunt form.

Prizes of $1,500 will be awarded to the middle school and the high school with the greatest number of field trips taken.

Neighborhood Association Hosting Candidates for Mayor, Marion County and Judicial Positions

(SALEM) - The South Gateway Neighborhood Association is inviting community members to learn more about nonpartisan candidates who will be on the May primary ballot.

Candidates for Salem mayor and municipal judge, Marion County assessor and circuit court judge will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and make a short statement.

Geer Park Dedication Ceremony April 29th

(SALEM) - The official dedication of the Geer Community Park is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 29th.

The new 46 acre community park is located at 2605 State Street, west of Hawthorne Avenue, and was leased to the City of Salem by the State of Oregon for $1 per year to provide a community park primarily devoted to organized activities for Salem`s youth.

The first phase of the park includes: an entry road off of State Street, two soccer fields, two 90` baseball fields, restroom facilities, a maintenance building, and pedestrian pathways.

(SALEM) - A small boy attending the immigration rally at the state capitol Sunday, held up a sign that simply said, `Please don`t separate me from my family- Jordan.` Honestly, I am appalled that the U.S. government and its citizens could place somebody like Jordan in a position like that. It goes against the grain of everything that is moral and right.

It is my Christian faith that tells me kids should not be separated from their parents, that`s something the Nazi`s did. But here we are in the modern world, where we are supposed to advance as a species, and many of the immigrant bashers are claiming to be Christians too. That puzzles me, Christ loved everyone and he wanted people to help others and love them, not keep them banished.

OSU Cheerleaders Grounded

New cheerleading tryouts will be announced in the coming weeks.

(CORVALLIS) - In an effort to protect the health of students involved the increasingly high-risk sport of cheerleading, Oregon State University is changing its program to eliminate use of dangerous "stunts" and refocus the program's attention on cheering.

OSU is not eliminating the program, athletic department officials emphasized. The university is, however, moving away from dangerous routines that have helped make cheerleading the second-most "catastrophic injury"-prone collegiate athletics activity behind only football, according to the NCAA.

"We've made the decision to move away from risky acrobatics and refocus the program squarely on cheering," said OSU Associate Athletics Director Marianne Vydra. "We simply cannot appropriately supervise and facilitate these activities. The decision is really in the best interest of the student cheerleaders, who still have options to pursue competitive cheerleading and stunts as a student group."

OSP Fish and Wildlife Troopers Rescue Three People After Capsizing

Timing is everything, and these troopers could not have been in a better place at a better time to rescue the victims in fast moving, 41 degree water.

(INDEPENDENCE) - Three people narrowly escaped tragedy Sunday, when state fish and wildlife troopers happened upon an overturned canoe with three adults hanging onto the side a few miles downstream from Independence. All three were wearing lifejackets, which the troopers believed help them survive.

Sunday at approximately 12:30 PM, OSP Trooper Adam Turnbo and Trooper Andrew Goffrier were on boat patrol along the Willamette River when they spotted the three on the Willamette River with their canoe overturned...

Mannix Launches New Ad to Promote Oregon Economy

(WEST LINN) - `I`ll be Oregon`s top business recruiter,` Kevin Mannix says in a new TV ad that starts today. The new ad focuses on Oregon`s unfriendly business atmosphere, saying that because of `anti-business taxes and regulations and trouble in the schools, more and more businesses are leaving Oregon.`

Mannix wants voters to know Oregon is missing out on opportunities to locate and expand businesses due to the failed policies and promises of Governor Ted Kulongoski. Kulongoski came into office with bold promises to `aggressively pursue economic opportunity for the people of Oregon` and little has come of it. In fact, the opposite has occurred. Business recruitment is a top priority for Mannix, who believes the Governor must be Oregon`s number one business ambassador to achieve real success.
