Three People Seriously Injured in Early Morning Crash

(GRAND RONDE) - Two people were seriously injured and two others received minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Highway 18 about 3 miles west of Grand Ronde.

Oregon State Police Officers` Association Endorses Governor Kulongoski in Democratic Primary

"Governor Kulongoski is committed to increasing the number of State Troopers on our roads and stabilizing the funding for the State Police."

(SALEM) - The nearly 600 members of the Oregon State Police Officers' Association, say they do not give endorsements to political candidates lightly.

The group represents state troopers, dispatchers, forensic scientists and trades maintenance personnel with the Oregon State Police.

In determining public endorsements, OSPOA considers the candidate's commitment to public safety and law enforcement issues, general support of public employees, experience in public office, policy and program priorities, vision for Oregon, and last but most importantly, ability to lead and govern at the State level.

Corvallis Police Investigate Bank Robbery

(CORVALLIS) - Corvallis Police are investigating a bank robbery that happened early Monday afternoon at the Umpqua Bank at 415 NW 3rd Street. Corvallis Police Lieutenant Ron Noble says that around 12:45 PM Monday, a man entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money.

Tellers say the man appeared to be in his 50's. He was described as 5'11" tall, 200 pounds, with gray hair, wearing a navy blue jacket over a white shirt, blue baseball cap, and carrying a black briefcase

Student Rally at State Capitol

Reflecting the nature of the capitol city they live in, politically active local students are marched to the capitol to protest a Wisconsin Republican senator's move to make illegal immigration a felony crime.

(SALEM) - Hundreds of students from McKay, North Salem, South Salem, McNary and West Salem High Schools joined together Monday on the steps of the Oregon state capitol to protest a bill by the U.S. House cracking down on illegal immigration.

The district reminds parents that students are participating in the event can be cited for truancy.

McNary High School Assistant Prinicpal Jay Crystal, says students at his who participate in the rally will face either detention or suspension at the school.

State Trooper Locates Lost 5-Year Old Kindergartener South of Amity

Amity's Superintendent told OSP that he will fully investigate the incident and put procedures into place to prevent this from happening again in the future.

(AMITY) - An Oregon State Police trooper found a lost Amity Elementary kindergarten boy on Highway 99W about one mile south of Amity Wednesday afternoon. The boy reportedly was trying to walk home after being dropped off at the middle school where it was believed he was to be picked up by a relative.

Governor launches Hunger Awareness Week 2006

Receives new report that outlines next steps in the fight against hunger.

(SALEM) - Kicking off Hunger Awareness Week 2006, Governor Ted Kulongoski today honored some of Oregon`s `hunger heroes` at the Oregon Food Bank 2006 Luncheon of Champions at Northwest Natural Gas headquarters in Portland.

Celebrating Oregon`s successes in the fight against hunger, Governor Kulongoski also announced that he has received the 2006 Action Summary from the Oregon Hunger Relief Taskforce. This new report updates the `Act to End Hunger,` Oregon`s five-year strategic plan released during Hunger Awareness Week in 2004.

`Together, we have made progress in Oregon`s fight against hunger. Fewer people go to bed hungry every night in Oregon than three years ago,` Governor Kulongoski said. `But our work is not done..."

Keizer Fire CERT Team to Train With Oregon Army National Guard

Don`t be alarmed if you see or hear a low-flying Army Blackhawk helicopter near Claggett Creek Park.

(Keizer) - On Thursday, students in the Keizer Fire District's Community Emergency Response Team training program, will conduct a helicopter patient evacuation drill.

The drill will be conducted with the assistance of the 1042nd Unit of the Army National Guard.

Keizer Fire District spokesman Jim Trett says the exercise is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, when a Blackhawk helicopter will land at the north end of Claggett Creek Park.

Area residents should be aware of excessive noise in the area when the helicopter lands and takes off around 8:30 PM.
