Salem Man Tries to Elude Police; Slams into Dump Truck

The suspect, along with a long list of new charges, also had a warrant for his arrest out of Polk County.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police Chase Oregon State Police arrested a Salem man Thursday afternoon following his brief attempt to elude and injury traffic crash on Hyacinth Road NE at Salem Parkway in Salem.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says at approximately 3:25 p.m., an OSP trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop southbound in the area of Portland Road NE and Hyacinth Road NE on a 1997 Mercury Sable for an equipment lighting violation.

Portland Police Sergeant Arrested for DUII

Sergeant James McMurray, an 18-year-veteran of the Portland Police Bureau assigned to the North Precinct Night Relief, was off-duty Thursday morning and was involved in a non-injury crash in the area of Southeast 190th Drive and Southwest 31st Street in Gresham.

Hawaii Prepares for Duel Hurricane Punch

Hawaii's schools would be closed on Friday, but authorities planned to keep airports open so planes could land in an emergency, even as some airlines canceled flights, officials said.

(HILO, Hawaii) - Hawaii Hurricanes Hawaii braced for a one-two punch from a pair of major storms barreling toward the archipelago on Thursday, with Hurricane Iselle leading the way bringing high winds and heavy surf as Hurricane Julio gathered steam behind it, U.S. officials said.

Wind shook palm trees on Hawaii's Big Island and caused white caps to form off the coast as Iselle approached on Thursday afternoon rated a Category 1 hurricane, even with the eye of the storm still about 150 miles east of the town of Hilo.

Three Years Later, Rescue Crews Reunited with Girl who Nearly Drowned

On social media, the victim's mother reached out to the live saving members of MCFD #1 to say thank you.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Marion County Fire District Marion County Fire District #1 Firefighters and Paramedics were reunited on Thursday with a near drowning victim.

Three years ago MCFD #1 responded to a reported drowning incident on Cordon road, when they arrived they found a toddler that had just been pulled from a swimming pool by her grandmother.

Vigil to be Held Friday Night for Family, Friends of Jennifer Huston

Huston, a mother of two boys, 3 and 6, was found dead on property in rural Yamhill County after a massive 12 day search for her both on the ground, in the air, and on social media.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - Salem-News.com Family, friends, and members of the Dundee and Newberg communities will hold a special vigil service on Friday night to remember the life of 38-year-old Jennifer Huston.

The vigil will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Hillside Church, located at 611 N. Main Street, in Newberg, Oregon.

Jim Walker Named Oregon`s New State Fire Marshal

Jim Walker is Oregon's 10th State Fire Marshal after C. Walter Stickney was officially appointed the first State Fire Marshal in 1963.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Jim Walker Oregon State Police Superintendent Rich Evans has announced the appointment of Jim Walker as the next State Fire Marshal for the Office of State Fire Marshal.

Walker, 52, began his service as Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal in 2009 and has been serving as the interim state fire marshal since March 2014.

Salem Mourns the Deaths of 3 Teens in Less than a Month

Back on July 7, just three days after his birthday, 14-year-old Sean Kaleopa drowned while swimming at the Three Pools Recreation area.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Mill Creek Salem Oregon Salem family, friends, and the community as a whole, have had to endure the tragic deaths of three teenagers from Salem in less than a month, and two, just days apart.

On Sunday, 16-year-old North Salem High School student Matthew Tufts drowned after jumping into Mill Creek, and on Saturday, 19-year-old Marina Toran of Salem was a passenger in a vehicle that fell down a 100 foot embankment and ended up in the Molalla River.

Portland Max Service Stopped after Man Hit and Killed by Train

Both eastbound and westbound MAX lines are stopped at this time, as well as traffic on Burnside both directions. incident

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - BREAKING NEWS This morning, at 10:43 a.m., Portland Police East Precinct and Transit Police officers responded to the report of an adult male struck by a MAX train at 122nd Avenue and East Burnside.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the adult male victim suffering from traumatic injuries. Medical personnel were unable to save the man and he died at the scene.
