Semi-Truck Catches Fire in Downtown Salem

High Street has re-opened between Ferry Street and Church Street in downtown Salem.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Truck Fire Salem Firefighters and Salem Police had a rare situation on their hands Saturday afternoon.

A semi truck caught fire on High Street in downtown Salem blocking all lanes of traffic.

(MT. ANGEL, Ore. ) - BREAKING NEWS Several Willamette Valley police agencies have been working throughout the night, trying to resolve a hostage situation in Mt. Angel, Oregon.

Mt. Angel police tell Salem-News.com that officers were called to the home at 775 St. Mary's Avenue in Mt. Angel at 2:34 a.m. Saturday morning, and called Woodburn Police and the Marion County Sheriff's Office for assistance.

740 Homes Threatened by Oregon Wildfire

Tonight, fire control work will focus on holding all constructed fire lines, continuing burnout operations, and conducting an infrared flight tonight over the fire.

(ROWENA, Ore. ) - Rowena Oregon Wildfire Crews from the Oregon Department of Forestry and Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office worked throughout the day on Friday to conduct burnout operations and improve containment lines.

No structures were lost during Friday's operations, which focused on burning off dry fuel and creating defensible space around homes and outbuildings in the town of Rowena.

Oregon Couple Arrested for Drowning Child in Bathtub

Noelle Watkins died shortly after medics arrived on scene.

(INDEPENDENCE, Ore. ) - BathTub Death Police in Independence have arrested two people in connection with the drowning death of a 2-year-old child earlier this year.

Lt. Rick Igou says 26-year-old Rebecca Watkins, and 26-year-old Codey Campbell, both of Independence, were arrested in connection to the February 24 drowning death of Watkins' two-year-old daughter, Noelle Watkins.

Police on Alert Between Salem and Independence After Road Rage Reports

The incidents occurred between July 31st and August 4th in the area of South River Road near Orville Road and the bridge entering Independence.

(INDEPENDENCE, Ore. ) - police lights The Independence Police Department and Marion County Sheriff's office are looking into reports from different motorists of road rage and aggressive driving.

One of the reports indicates two vehicles appearing to be acting together. They were parked waiting on the side of the road for another motorist to come by.

(LONDON) - Africa Ebola Epidemic West Africa's Ebola epidemic is an "extraordinary event" and now constitutes an international health risk, the World Health Organization said on Friday.

The Geneva-based U.N. health agency said the possible consequences of a further international spread of the outbreak, which has killed almost 1,000 people in four West African countries, were "particularly serious" in view of the virulence of the virus.

Salem Officials Say Drinking Water is Safe

As a result of the monitoring program, staff has identified the presence of frequent, but low levels of algal toxins, in the reservoir this summer.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem-News.com Salem Public Works Department staff monitored water contamination developments in Toledo, Ohio, and Lincoln City, Oregon, with interest this week, as a toxic algae bloom restricted use of drinking water in both cities.

Algae blooms are also known to occur in Detroit Lake and the North Santiam River, Salem's water source.

A military spokesman said on Twitter: "After the 72-hour ceasefire, Hamas resumes indiscriminate rocket fire at Israel.

(JERUSALEM ) - Israel Hamas War Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip resumed rocket fire into Israel on Friday after Egyptian mediated talks in Cairo failed to extend a 72-hour truce in a nearly month long war.

As police said rocket warning sirens were sounding in southern Israel, the military's "Iron Dome" interceptor system brought down a missile over the southern city of Ashkelon.
