Police Arrest Woman on Manslaughter Charges

(ALBANY) - Albany Police Detectives arrested a woman Monday afternoon that they had been seeking in connection with a double-fatal crash over the weekend. The crash, a rear-end collision, killed two 20-year old Linn County men in a Honda who were waiting at a red light.

The woman police were seeking, Jodie Faye Jones, was taken into custody at 1:30 PM Monday at the Albany Police Department. Jones was driven to the Albany Police Department by family members where she turned herself in.

April Events at Mission Mill Museum

Weyerhaeuser Grant to Aid Turner Fire District Fitness Initiative

The funds will be used to create an on-site gym, enabling safety personnel to improve and maintain physical fitness

(SALEM) - The Turner Fire District will soon have new fitness equipment for department firefighters and policemen, thanks to a $1,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation.

Corps Reviews Permit Applications From Wheatland Ferry, Molalla and Albany

(SALEM) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing three applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States.

Marion County Fair Seeks Performers

(SALEM) - The casting call is going out for talented local groups to provide entertainment during the annual Marion County Fair. This year the fair runs July 13th-16th.

Singers, dancers, instrumentalists, jump-rope teams and baton twirlers are among those whose talents will be showcased.

OSP Receives Grant to Increase Patrols on Highway 99E Between Salem and Woodburn

In November 2002, ODOT designated the approximately 11-mile stretch of highway as a safety corridor due to higher than average crash problems.

(SALEM) - The Oregon State Police has been awarded grant funds to provide extra enforcement between Salem and Woodburn in the Highway 99E Safety Corridor, one of seven safety corridors around the State to be selected by the Oregon Department of Transportation.

"Safety Corridors are sections of state highways that ODOT has identified as having a fatal and serious injury crash rate that is at or higher than 110 percent of the three-year statewide average for a similar type roadway," said Anne Holder, ODOT Safety Division Statewide Roadway Safety Program Manager.

City of Salem Now Accepting Plastic For Payments

The city is NOT yet able to accept credit or debit card payments in city offices or for other types of payments such as planning and development fees, parking tickets, or court payments.

(SALEM) - City of Salem utility bill – $300 – now able to charge it to your credit or debit card – priceless.

The City of Salem is now using U.S. Bank`s Lockbox Service to process payments for parking permits, miscellaneous accounts receivable invoices and utility bill payments received in the mail.

Payments can be made using either MasterCard or Visa credit and debit cards.

The city is working to add American Express and Discover card payment acceptance.

Marion County Courthouse Repair Costs Now at $12 Million Dollars

Plans are to re-occupy the building starting in the basement and moving up floor by floor as repairs and upgrades are completed. Some employees are expected to begin setting up work spaces in May.

(SALEM) - Pinning down the costs of restoring the Marion County Courthouse has been difficult, say county officials. They say there are dozens of hard decisions about whether to clean and repair a large variety of materials or replace them.

Oregon Gasoline Prices Soar; Average Price Up 22 Cents Since End of February

(SALEM) - For a brief time, Portland was said to have the lowest average gasoline price in the nation at $2.02. That was two weeks and 27-cents ago. In the past week alone, Oregonians have watched the statewide average price for a gallon of regular shoot up 14-cents to $2.36. At the same time, the national average gained a nickel to $2.36, the highest since November 9th, 2005. Salem`s average price for a gallon of gas is $2.26.

"The bottom line is we're approaching the peak driving season when fuel demand is highest, retailers are transitioning to the more expensive summer fuel grades and crude oil continues to trade at more than $60 per barrel," said AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Elliott Eki.

College Health-Care Scholarships Application

(SALEM) - People interested in a career in nursing can now apply for Salem Hospital Foundation scholarships for half-time or full-time students in medically related fields.

Students must be residents of Marion, Polk or Yamhill Counties and have applied to a college in their field of healthcare study before applying for this scholarship. Some undergraduate or prerequisite study may not qualify for the scholarship.
