WOU gets win in 2006 home opener, improve to 9-6 on the season

(MONMOUTH) - After 14 consecutive road games, Western Oregon enjoyed its 2006 home debut this afternoon with a 8-2 non-conference baseball win over Willamette at the WOU Baseball Field.

The victory was also officially the first for interim head coach Jeremiah Robbins. Long-time leader Terry Baumgartner resigned as the WOU mentor yesterday.

Eight different players rapped eight hits for the hosts, while Robbins sent six different WOU pitchers to the mound.

Salem Receives Money to Develop, Improve City Parks

City parks staff plans to continue to look for alternate revenue sources to complete needed projects throughout the city park system

(SALEM) - The City of Salem has received a $155,000 Community Development Block Grant for the improvement of Northgate Park, located at 3260 Northgate Street N. T

The city`s Urban Development Department administers the CDBG program through funding from the Federal Housing and Urban Development Department.

Park improvements will include the installation of safety lighting, walking trails, picnic tables, an irrigated soccer field, a baseball diamond, and ADA accessibility to the playground area.

Salem-Keizer Superintendent Finalists Meet The Public

The naming of a new superintendent is expected by the end of the month.

Salem Teen Severely Injured Trying to Hop Freight Train

(SALEM) - Police say a 13-year old Salem boy was severely injured Saturday night when he tried to jump aboard a moving northbound freight train. It happened around 11:00 PM in the 2200 block of Maple Street NE according to Salem Police Lt. John Hoffmeister.

`He jumped onto a moving train in an attempt to get a ride on it. He grabbed onto the ladder of one of the cars, slipped and his left foot was run over by one of the wheels.`

Most train versus people collisions in Salem end in death for the person involved. Hoffmeister says this particular boy, who attends middle school in Salem, is fortunate to be alive. Hoffmeister says the injuries caused by a multi-car freight train, unyielding in terms of weight and force, caused major injuries to the Salem teen...

Baumgartner Resigns as WOU Baseball Leader

(MONMOUTH) - Long-time Western Oregon University baseball coach Terry Baumgartner has resigned as the program`s leader.

The 35-year-old has served as the team`s head coach for 11 seasons, after two years as an assistant and four more as a player. His career record was 370-220, and the Wolves never had a losing season during his tenure.
