Dow Jones Soars Above 17,000 on Strong Jobs Report

The yield on 10-year Treasuries climbed three basis points to 2.66 percent.

(NEW YORK) - Dow Jones The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed above 17,000 for the first time as data showed employers added more workers than projected in June and the European Central Bank disclosed details of its stimulus plans.

The Dow gained 71.09 points, or 0.4 percent, to 17,047.33 at 10:20 a.m. in New York. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 0.3 percent to a record 1,980.95.

Oregon State Parks Approves New 70 Mile Scenic Bikeway

The Oregon Scenic Bikeways program now has 12 designated bikeways statewide.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Parks Scenic Bikeway The Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission has approved the new Cascading Rivers Scenic Bikeway.

Experienced riders seeking a challenge will love this 70-mile route of forested splendor paired with a 3,125-foot climb near Estacada and a 1,985-foot climb near Detroit. A shorter, family-friendly ride is available near Estacada on Faraday Road, which is closed to motor vehicles.

The bikeway parallels the Breitenbush River and the nationally designated Wild and Scenic Clackamas River along rocky riffles and quiet pools where native coho, chinook and steelhead seek their ancient spawning beds.

Police Searching for Murder Suspect in Southern Oregon

(GRANTS PASS, Ore. ) - Daniel Joseph Martinson Police in southern Oregon are asking for the public's help in locating a Josephine County resident wan ted for murder in connection with a November 2013 homicide in Cave Junction.

44-year-old Daniel Joseph Martinson is wanted for the murder of 39-year-old Aaron Lee Clouser. On November 5, 2013 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a report was received of a man lying in the road in the 200 block of W. Millie Street in Cave Junction. The deceased man was later identified as Clouser, and his death was determined to be a homicide.

I was astonished to see that it was written by William Moyers. I am well acquainted with Bill Moyers and wondered if this was the same guy. It turns out, he is the eldest son of “the” Bill Moyers.

Several towns and villages on North Carolina's Outer Banks and coast rescheduled Independence Day festivities and fireworks plans as the storm picked up speed.

(CHARLESTON, S.C.) - Tropical Storm Arthur Tropical Storm Arthur threatened to douse some July 4 holiday plans on the U.S. East Coast as officials ordered evacuations of some low-lying coastal areas, closed beaches and tourist sites and delayed fireworks shows in anticipation of heavy rain and fierce winds.

The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season was close to reaching hurricane strength, forecasters said on Thursday, leaving some businesses worried about taking a financial hit.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Devon Allen University of Oregon University of Oregon freshman hurdler Devon Allen was named the USATF Athlete of the week after capturing the 110 meter hurdles title in a stunning upset at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, California, on Sunday, June 29.

Allen also won the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the men’s 110 hurdles in June.

Dead Body Found at South Salem Park

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Woodmansee Park Disc Golf Course Salem Police are on scene of a body found at a popular park in south Salem.

Salem-News.com was there at Woodmansee Park, located off Sunnyview Road, as police and detectives searched for clues as to what may have happened. The body was found in the parks popular 9-hole disc golf course, which is a located in a heavily wooded area.

Oregon to Become First State to Implement Road Usage Charge

Oregon is the first to implement a road use charging program, but many states are evaluating how such a system could work for them.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Portland Oregon Highways State governments and policy makers contemplating per-mile charging as a way to sustain transportation funding can now learn how Oregon established the nation’s first ever Road Usage Charge Program for light vehicles.

ODOT's new publication, “Road Usage Charge Pilot Program 2013 & Per-Mile Charge Policy in Oregon,” details how Oregon successfully designed and completed its second per-mile charge pilot program and ultimately passed legislation to establish a fully operational road usage charging program.

Oregon’s Senate Bill 810 was the first legislation in the U.S. to establish a per-mile charge. It authorized ODOT to set up a mileage collection system for volunteer motorists beginning July 1, 2015.

ODV Seeking Donations to Help Oregon Veterans Programs

In Oregon, between 2008 and 2012, suicide rates among veterans were significantly higher compared to non-veterans.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - State of Oregon Veterans The Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs is now accepting online donations to support four funds aimed at improving programs and supporting efforts that benefit Oregon veterans.

One of the funds, the Veteran Suicide Awareness and Prevention Fund, was established in 2013 when the Oregon Legislature passed SB 762 creating a public information campaign to raise awareness and prevent suicide by veterans in Oregon.
