Oregon Planned Parenthood Slams High Court`s Ruling on Birth Control

After decades of discriminatory coverage by insurance companies, the birth control benefit requires all insurance policies to cover birth control with no out-of-pocket cost to women.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Planned Parenthood organizations in Oregon condemned Monday's ruling by the Supreme Court that some for-profit private corporations, such as the arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby, can deny coverage of birth control to their employees, for no reason other than the personal religious beliefs of the corporation's owners.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - A new study suggests that a warming period more than 400,000 years ago pushed the Greenland ice sheet past its stability threshold, resulting in a nearly complete deglaciation of southern Greenland and raising global sea levels some 4-6 meters.

The study is one of the first to zero in on how the vast Greenland ice sheet responded to warmer temperatures during that period, which were caused by changes in the Earth’s orbit around the sun.

Oregon Workplace Safety Grant Applications Begin July 1

Applicants may apply for up to $40,000 per grant project without a requirement.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Grant funding will be available starting July 1 to develop innovative workplace safety and health training programs.

Oregon OSHA, a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, will sponsor projects that may range from a unique mobile app to an online educational game that engages workers. The grants will focus on programs that target an Oregon industry or a specific work process to reduce or eliminate hazards.

Police Asking for Help Locating Missing SE Portland Man

O'Malley left his home in the 11400 block of Southwest Oak Creek Drive in the Arnold Creek neighborhood on a walk on Sunday afternoon and never returned.

Kayaker Pulled Out of Pacific Ocean Near Cascade Head

Both kayakers were wearing survival gear, including dry suits, life jackets and survival vests.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - A Coast Guard Aircrew from Air Facility Newport rescued a male kayaker in the Pacific Ocean near Cascade Head, Oregon, Saturday morning.

The Coast Guard aircrew was conducting a harbor patrol at 11:45 a.m., when they saw two kayakers, one capsized and in the water, struggling to regain control of his paddlecraft.

Fire Guts Albany Home, Damages Several Cars

The homeowner was able to escape and exit with her child and pets before firefighters arrived.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - The Albany Fire Department responded to 3750 Glendale St. at 12:47 a.m. Sunday to a report of a fire in a garage.

Firefighters arrived at the scene in about seven minutes and found a house partially engulfed in fire.
