OIC`s Response to Rohingya Massacre in South Maungdaw (English and French)

The Secretary General urged the government of Myanmar to adhere to the framework it agreed to, to enforce the rule of law and to keep it's assurances to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms.

(RIYADH, Saudi Arabia) - Burma`s border security force (Nasaka in Burmese) in Maungdaw, Arakan State Iyad Ameen Madani, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the OIC, expressed deep concern regarding the recent events of 14th January, 2014 in which looting, raping and killing of Rohingya Muslim civilian citizens in southern Maungdaw, Rakhine State took place.

These events, stressed The Secretary General, violate the basic rights of the Rohingya Muslims to be protected as citizens and as a minority by their own government.

2 Alarm Fire Destroys Garage

It took firefighters nearly two hours to control the blaze.

(SALEM) - Flames consume a Salem garage 1-17-14 At just after 8:00 P.M. this evening multiple 9-1-1 callers began reporting an unattached garage on fire at 4932 Sunnyview Road NE, Salem, Oregon.

Marion County Fire District No. 1 was dispatched by the Willamette Valley Communications Center (Salem 9-1-1) and arrived within only 2 minutes to find an approximately 1,500 sq. ft. garage heavy involved in smoke and fire, immediately threatening the unattached home, only 10 feet away.

At Least 8 Rohingyas Shot Dead at Kiladon village near Maungdawin in Latest Round of Sectarian Strife

(SALEM) - Police in Myamnar Sources in Myanmar report that police shot and killed eight Rohingya people in a new round of sectarian strife in Kiladon village near Maungdaw. Sheerrsha News in Dhaka and The BBC report that a meeting is taking place in Godusara today.

Nurul Islam with Grassroots Welfare Association, Bangladesh (GWAB), says they received news from a reliable source from Maungdaw that the exact death toll could be higher. At this point, people Kiladon village are still trying to determine the number of casualties.

It is time we demand that “Protect and Serve” is not just a saying painted on a vehicle.

(SALEM) - Domestic Abuse As some of you may know, and some may not, I am a survivor of Domestic Abuse. I use the term “Domestic Abuse” because it was not only violence that was unacceptable in the relationship.

I believe that in all violent relationships there is an underlying pattern of abuse which involves psychological, emotional, physical and often sexual abuse. For victims this abuse it is like living in an environment of torture.

(PORTLAND, OR) - Ron Tonkin Ron Tonkin, a Portland businessman and national industry leader who began his career at his father’s used-car lot before launching what became one of the state’s largest dealership chains, died Friday of end-stage renal failure. He was 82.

The father and grandfather was a recognizable figure to Oregonians thanks to the commercials he and his sons helped write and often starred in over the years for his 17-store chain.

(SACRAMENTO) - Supporters of Curtis Keaton In Tehama County, Sheriffs deputies have been busy these past couple of years with a string of arrests all aimed at medical marijuana patients.

The most recent target of their war on the legal medical marijuana patients is Curtis Keaton, a disabled man who suffers from muscular dystrophy which is a condition that effects the musculoskeletal system. Curtis was arrested after placing an ad on Craigslist looking for fellow Prop. 215 patients. The person that responded to his ad was anything but a legal patient, rather a sheriff investigator Jeff Garrett.

The thousands of Western civilians who live in Kabul have felt very little of the threat posed by the insurgents.

(PORTLAND, OR) - One of Afghanistan`s thousands of walled villages Interesting observations of the lives of “thousands” of unofficial (mainly US) civilians by the NYTimes correspondent in Kabul.

I assume they are mainly US contractors and “security” company gunmen, business speculators and even shadier types that hope to profit from foreign money injected into an invaded and occupied country. Although there are also NGO employees engaged in presumably righteous activity, even most of them receive generous pay.
