Troubling Statistics Show Higher Rates of Care Home Neglect During COVID-19

Advocates for the elderly say these cases show clear signs of care home neglect.

(SALEM, Ore.) - One of the sectors in which the pandemic has done the most damage is in care and nursing homes.

While a lot of the focus has been on limiting the spread of COVID-19 and trying to keep residents safe from the virus, recent statistics have shown that rates of neglect have actually risen in many homes since the pandemic began, leading to additional deaths and tragic stories for those concerned.

(YAMHILL COUNTY, Ore.) - Yesterday, around 3:45 PM, pilot Danchuck and his spotter, Rich Ashenbrenner helped save 73-year old Sang Kwon Sa, from Washington State.

Sa had gone missing Sunday evening around 5:30 PM while collecting plants with family members off Wind River Road in Yamhill County.

Oregon reports 660 new confirmed and presumptive COVID-19 cases, 16 new deaths

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - There are 16 new COVID-19 related deaths in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 2,549, and the Oregon Health Authority reported 660 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 a.m. today, bringing the state total to 192,416.

This afternoon, Gov. Kate Brown and OHA Director Patrick Allen provided an update on the state's new vaccination targets for reopening the economy.

(POULSBO, Wash.) - 30 people were present on May 8th at the demonstration against Trident nuclear weapons at the Bangor submarine base.

Oregon Boosts New Unemployment Benefit Amounts

Minimum and Maximum Weekly Benefit Amounts to Increase Nearly 9% for New UI and PUA Claims

(SALEM, Ore.) - Today the Oregon Employment Department announced the annual change to the minimum and maximum weekly benefit amounts (WBAs) for regular unemployment insurance (UI).

For new regular UI and new PUA claims filed in Oregon on or after July 4, 2021, minimum and maximum WBAs each will increase by approximately 9%.

Survey to Determine Impact of Oregon Wildfires on Private Drinking Water Systems

Answers will help assess damages caused by or related to the 2020 wildfires.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The September 2020 wildfires damaged many public and private water systems across Oregon. The Potable Water Resources Task Force has launched a survey to learn how the 2020 wildfires have impacted private drinking water wells and systems that divert surface water from streams or reservoirs.

This information will be used to help the state better support impacted Oregonians while also helping to inform statewide recovery efforts.

Oregon Health Authority also reported 844 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 a.m. today, bringing the state total to 189,986.

Oregon House Democrats Vote to Increase Affordability of Electric Vehicles for Oregonians

House Bill 2165 removes the sunset on Oregon’s electric vehicle rebate program, and doubles the rebate to $5000.

(SALEM, Ore.) - House Bill 2165, which passed 35-22, also empowers electric companies to develop EV infrastructure statewide, ensuring that rural and low-income communities have access to these vehicles.
