(Salem) - Our in-your-face culture is encumbering. We are entitled. Give it to us now because we're the red-white-and-blue. Give us our climate-altering fossil fuels. We earned it because we just did--that's all. Give, give, give because we're America. Attitude with a capital A.

If we want to invade a country under false pretenses we get to call it liberation. If we want to torture--it's okay. They're just non-combatants. It's not fascism when we do it.

You see our attitude in the newspapers which line the check-out lane in the grocery store. Eat desserts, lose weight, whose having a baby, and who is going with whom? Only the Stars matter. Live your life through the rich and famous.

If it hasn't happened in the last 36 hours, we don't remember it. It's not just a question of not knowing our own history; it's a question of understanding that actions speak louder than words.

When Nixon said, "I am not a crook," did that really signify his honesty? I mean would a crook admit to being a crook? When George Bush promoted No Child Left Behind, it did nothing to help education but created a bureaucratic train wreck. Clear Skies loosened pollution standards.

But now the pendulum is swinging the other way, and the Right doesn't like it even one little bit. They want to stop the nation from correcting course. They want to flatten the tires of the bus. Behold Representative Michele Bachmann's statement.

"I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us 'having a revolution every now and then is a good thing,' and the people -- we the people -- are going to have to fight back hard if we're not going to lose our country. Some Dude, here's a homework assignment for you. Read your history and find out what got us out of the Great Depression. I'll give you a couple of hints. It wasn't cutting spending. Another hint: what does this letter and number combination mean to you? WWII.

More debt that's obviously the answer to our problems. We can just print money out of thin air to spend to continue to fund america's corporate bailouts. That's totally sound monetary policy. Fiat currencies are very stable and dependable all throughout history. When we do have hyperinflation, they already have a cashless world currency ready to go. What do you stupid conservatives not understand about that? Geez get with it. The New World Order will take care of us. They are our loving keepers, not our parasitic masters.

Bob, we _are_ entering a new era. More like our entire culture is being extruded through a knot-hole, but I'm not going to call it fascism. In GM's case they wanted federal money. With that came conditions. Rick Wagoner steps down. Fair enough. I'm reminded of the Tibetan saying, "Beware of honey offered on sharp knives." But why are the banks getting special treatment? If Obama is going to take the head of Rick Wagoner, then he must take AIG Chief Edward Libby down, too.

We need tariffs to protect American jobs. We can't allow another job to go overseas. The companies which open factories overseas must be treated as pariahs as are the AIG execs who took millions in bonuses.

My grandfather was a coal miner and walked the picket line for the right to organize during the 20's. My father worked in a steel mill and was a union man all his life. My brother was laid off from GM last month after more than 23 years of service. I worked at U. S. Steel for 5 years. I feel the working man's pain.
