Law Enforcement for Youth Announces Two Project GrantsSalem-News.comA group comprised mostly of off-duty cops announces more help for the community.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Recent grants announced by Law Enforcement for Youth in Salem will be awarded to Sprague High School and Striking Out Meth in Marion County. Steve Polanski with Law Enforcement for Youth says the grants will help in a number of areas. The group often gets involved in projects that help local kids including the restoration of the Chemawa Indian School athletic field. Polanski says the Sprague High School "S cubed" program will get a boost. "This Student Success program is design to assist incoming freshmen who were struggling academically in middle school," Polanski said. The program will provide academic and social support/assistance to students and communication/intervention between parents, students and teachers. The award amount was $1,500.00 for this program. Striking Out Meth in Marion County's award will support the Meth Strike Out event held by this organization at an up coming Volcano's baseball game in Keizer. Polanski says the Meth Strike out event focuses on the meth crisis and children providing a family evening surrounded by anti-drug/drug free displays, activities and messages. "Included in this event is the Bleacher Buddy program that provides game tickets and meals to foster children to enjoy a family night surrounded by a positive theme. And of course everyone will enjoy rooting for the local Volcano's baseball team. The award amount was $850.00 for this program.
