Gota-Baye - The Baya-Gota
(COLOMBO Sri Lanka Guardian) - Dear GataBaye- The Baya-Gota: Please read this advise as it will help you halt making very confusing and angry statements.
Your latest lambasting, levelled against the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Muthuvelu Karunanithy for is dream of a separate state for the Tamil people in Sri Lanka is very interesting.
You had a fair and proportional response from the former Chief Minister that must have strapped your mouth by now and made you to walk nude in the Galle-face Green in Colombo. Did you do it? If not, please do so after reading this piece.
Since you became the Defence Secretary you have made threatening remarks to terrorise individuals and group of people. Under your worrying guidance state terrorism machinery is doing all the nasty things that the state must not do against its people.
In your nifty lambasting to ridicule the former Chief Minister, you have stated: ‘This is a sovereign country. We consider those who talk about Eelam as terrorists’ (Daily Mirror April 20). You have touched on two important words in a sense of Sinhala patriotism and with anger. Let us consider the two provocative words:
‘Sovereign’ Country: A sovereign state (or simply state) is classically described as a state with a defined territory on which it exercises internal and external controls, a permanent population, a government, and the capacity to enter into relations with other sovereign states. It is also normally understood to be a territory which is neither dependent on nor subject to any other power or state.
It also means ‘independent’ of self governing nature. In a monarchical rule it refers to King or Queen who has the power of authority. Can you give any other meaning to what I have claimed here. There is also an assertion that sovereign state is simply a country that is a member of the UN.
You are repeatedly portraying the term ‘sovereignty’ as something extra-ordinary power that no soul on the earth or the universe can tamper it. If you have much deeper meaning to what I have stated herein, then I have to contend that sovereignty is something even the god cannot mess about.
Having said this, I wish to give you some simple examples of how the hyphened sovereignty faced the pressures to disintegrate or change due to various compulsions.
USSR made out of amalgamation of sovereign states was one time a powerful sovereign state, that disintegrated into many formations and each becoming sovereign states at the end of two super power domination.
If sovereignty is an un-mitigating concept, how did Arab spring change the status quo of nations leaders. Are they simply internal revolutions or clearly orchestrated campaign of regime change in sovereign states?
Well! Iraq and Libya were dreaming that they were sovereign states under their rulers. The sovereign status remained but the leaders who were upholding the sovereignty like you have, had to hide in a bunker and a drain pipe to see their fate end therewith due to their overwhelmed zealous and ignoramus conduct.
The sovereign state of Sudan was ripped into two sovereign states like Ethiopia, Indonesia (ache) and many other scenarios. If your theory of absolute authority of states prevailed, why these changes should happen around the world? There will be a peaceful referendum in Scotland soon to break-away from the UK. If the vote prevail, there will be another sovereign state stamping on the world map.
What is important is the overriding factor is the nationhood of the people. Under this concept, nationhood means: ‘A nation may refer to a community of people who share a common language, culture, ethnicity, descent, or history. In this definition, a nation has no physical borders.’ This powerful factor has overriding influence over the sovereign status of a country with strong divisions of nationhood prevailing within, leading to formation of new sovereign states.
The sovereign states of Tamil and Sinhala kingdoms brought together to bring about the Ceylon by the British. This status was given in a golden platter by the British to the Sinhalese. This artificial merger has not removed the demarcation lines and strenuous efforts are being made in a campaign of suppression, marginalisation and systematic extermination to uphold the Sinhala sovereignty in the island nation.
In the ever changing world order, how long can this hegemonic concept of one nation of people suppressing an equally and historically powerful another nation of people can continue. Unlike the olden days, external compulsions make the misconceived sovereignty status of a misbehaving country miserably fail. Sri Lanka too must realise its limitations and find ways to mitigate its stance to play accommodative politics.
Terrorism is a word cheaply used by you against others when you are officially delegated with the responsibility to extend the very state terrorism to terrorise the people. Terrorism is the systematic use of terror, especially as a means of coercion. State terrorism breeds individual or group terrorism. Likewise terrorism produce counter terrorism actions.
Since you became the Defence Secretary you have made threatening remarks to terrorise individuals and group of people. Under your worrying guidance, state terrorism machinery is doing all the nasty things that the state must not do against its people.
When a depraved mind consider those who talk about Eelam as terrorists cause, is a worrying statement of a psychopath who cannot think other than calling a genuine claim as terrorism. These psychopaths are the breeders of individual terrorism and the world is getting focussed to deal with them.
How can such a mentally depraved person hold a green card of the US and undermine the very value of decentralised administration of the United States. The time is up for the green card of the terror psychopath to be made redundant or democratic justice is meted out by the awarding country.
I hope the two issues in simply explained to you. If you need to further clarity, please do not hesitate to contact an international experts on this matter.
Special thanks to Sri Lanka Guardian
