(MCMINNVILLE) - On April 28th, 2014 at about 8:15 pm, McMinnville Officers responded to a report of a fight or disturbance in the creek bed area of City Park (140 NW Park Dr, McMinnville). The initial report was of approximately seven individuals assaulting a male and a female. McMinnville Officers managed to contact most of the involved individuals before they could leave the park.

Based on statements of those involved and of an independent witness, two females (ages 15 and 16) were with several adult and juvenile friends in the park. These two girls began verbally harassing a juvenile couple that was walking through the park. The fifteen year old female escalated the situation by shoving and then punching the male and threatening the female. He apparently responded with force to protect his girlfriend (fighting back and trying to keep her away from his girlfriend). That apparently upset the friends and about five males and females then chased down and assisted the initial juvenile female in assaulting the juvenile male.

The male and female victim were both transported to Willamette Valley Medical Center and received treatment for their injuries. These injuries included cuts and swelling including head injuries from getting punched and kicked in the head.

The two female juveniles that started the incident were both cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol. They were also arrested and lodged in Juvenile Detention pending arraignment on the following charges:

Assault in the Third Degree

Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree

Officers were able to obtain a video recording of the incident and more arrests are anticipated.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Officer Galloway at 503-434-7307.
